As far as I know, it's probably delayed. The manga department at ADV has gone through some rough times lately, and I'm not exactly sure how the sales for Volume 1 went here in America, so it's a wait-and-see situation concerning Vol. 2. My understanding is from what's listed in its Encyclopedia entry, Maburaho only has two volumes, but I was lucky enough to buy the import version of Volume 2 that contained the limited edition Yuna figure. If you're a Maburaho fan, definitely purchase this item.

Probably never. ADV has dropped most of their manga titles but didn't bother making any official announcements. Yotsuba&, Full Metal Panic!, Chrono Crusade, and their new series Anne Freaks seem to be the only ones they are still doing.
Damn you ADV, I want my Gunslinger Girl!! |

Don't forget about Neon Genesis Evangelion: Angelic Days, which is scheduled to street in June. They also have the license to the Sugar: A Little Snow Fairy manga, in which they will release this coming August. Ironically, the latest edition of Anime Insider (Issue #30 - March 2006) had a very good article about the "relaunch" of ADV Manga with the aformentioned titles Anne Freaks and the two I mentioned. The most interesting point in the article, which can be found on page 69, occurs at the very last paragraph:
Another item about ADV's manga division that I found interesting was this article posted on Publishers Weekly's website on February 28, which states at the end of the article:
My take on this is that at this point, ADV should concentrate on marketing/selling the "big-name" titles that they have. It is unfortunate that the lesser-known titles like Gunslinger Girl and Aria were put on hiatus, but that's what happens when people don't buy the books. ADV did all they could to market these books, but they just simply didn't generate the fanbase necessary for them to cover the cost of producing the books, which includes translation fees, licensing fees, printing and paper, and so on. Part of that IMHO is that those few that did spent the money on the books didn't do their part to promote these titles to the open market, whether it be by word-of-mouth, discussions on a forum, or whatever. Yes, GSG and Aria have a loyal fan base, but it pales in comparison to the bigger titles like FMP and Chrono. I believe the same fate happened to Maburaho, and that's probably why Volume 2 hasn't been released yet. Chris Beveridge of Anime On DVD.com made a great point in referring to the status of the suspended titles that ADV manga has. He said that ADV "really need to say what's up with each title and just be upfront with it," and I completely agree with him. If it was because of poor sales, then that's a good enough reason to suspend/cancel the title. Does it sucks? Yes, but then you have to ask yourself, why did the title sell so poorly? |

and also Angel Dust and Angel Dust Neo.
i think what adv problem was that they licensed alot of titles and that they put them all out on the shevles all at once and t here was notmuch of a fanbase either and what they could of done was that they could of realsed two or three titles every couple of months or so and introduced a new series about a year later or something like that. ill guess ill have to import vol 2 to read it but i enjoy the series anyway. does anyone think any of the titles they dropped will be picked up again? |

Exactly. That's what happens when you expand too quickly and don't have a feasible backup plan just in case something goes wrong. If ADV Manga had a "Plan B", they wouldn't be in this mess. |

My problem with ADV isn't that they stopped producing their manga. If they had really poor sales, that may have been the only option. My problem is that they never bothered commenting on it. They stopped putting out new volumes for most of their series (which is a lot more than 'several') and didn't say a damn thing.
I don't even know for sure if Gunslinger Girl was actually cancelled. The second volume took a year and a half to come out, so maybe the fourth volume will come out eventually. I doubt it, but since they didn't say anything, I can't know for sure. |

Well that explains why I couldn't get steel angel kurumi at the beginning of the year, and I thought that they'd lost the licence. |
