I have been listening to Tenchi Muyo songs lately and something that I have realized is that just about every song from that series, I like better in the English version. I'm pretty sure such great composition of songs from Japanese to English for an anime series is unprecedented in the history of anime. Or am I wrong? I just think the American producers at Geneon (which was Pioneer at the time) did an outstanding job of finding vocalists and musicians and put together an extremely talented group to pull off what they did. For example songs by the famous Chisa Yokoyama, like "Boku wa Pioneer" and "Chanto Yume wo Mimasho" are even better in the English version with the wonderful vocal talent of Sharyn Scott.
And the absolutely horrendous song "Nemureru Engawa no Bijo" is actually quite a decent little lullaby in the English version done by Ellen Gerstel ("Sleeping Beauty on the Balcony"). There are others that are great songs, but I can't think of any of the Japanese version songs that I like better than the English versions.

I actually love the scoring of that show more than the OPs or EDs. It's very distinctive.

I agree the instrumentals of Tenchi and the various spinoffs are quite pleasing. I never get tired of listening to the opening tune for the 1st OVA series. I've never heard a composition quite like it (can't say "song" since it has no vocals).

How do you feel about the theme song to Tenchi Universe when sang in English and Japanese by the same people (Sonia)?

....that's why they sound the same. Didn't know that. Cool.

I like the english songs more than the japanese to tell you the truth. Bought the Pioneer soundtrack last month. Too bad it doesn't really get into Tenchi Universe. Guess i gotta get the other one.....

I like the english versions better. Especially Talent for love. I don't know- the songs just flow better and have more of an impact in english. I wish all english remakes could be so good.

I definitely grew up to Tenchi Muyo and Tenchi Muyo Universe during the good ole Toonami days. I love the English soundtracks. Sharyn Scott for Talent for Love, I'm a Pioneer, Dream and Away; Scottie Haskell for Washu's Lullaby and The Lonely Moon; and Diane Michelle for Walk Up in the Galaxy and Forevermore. I'm sure theres a few more but these songs have stood through the test of time on my playlist especially Talent for Love and The Lonely Moon as they are just good singalong songs. Makes me want to binge watch the series again. Mr. Green

PS: Crazy how it took 20 years from the last commenter of this forum to put their two cents in it. Heehee. Time, right?
