Yes, I saw the sticky, last post in it 4 months ago though.
I'm running out of stuff to put on my "to watch" list and have my information ready for some help on what I should look into - but I don't feel like making the post simply to have it locked cause "lol nub read the sticky" I know I could search for series easily, but I'd rather ask others what their opinions are on what I should check for a better variety for results. Usually when looking for new series, I look for a recent post here on a series I havn't heard about yet, and look into it (This introduced me to Kanon 2006 for example, which I would not of started watching if it didn't scale to such a size in a short number of days) Yet lately, there havn't been as many churning up, and my stuff is running dry Can we look for help here again or am I going to have to look elsewhere for advise? |

As far as I know asking for recommendations is still prohibited. But if you want to know someone's opinion of a series these threads might help.

I can't answer the recommendation thread question, of course, but don't forget about this topic.
You could scroll through it looking for something that looks interesting. It gives you pretty much all the relevant discussion threads relating to a given series conveniently grouped right there. May not be entirely what you had in mind, but there is a lot of good stuff there. |

I know I, as a person who uses the Search function on a regular basis, have no desire to see the recommendation threads return. They clog up the forum and promote little to no discussion. If they were to return, I still think my suggestion in the sticky, or something close to it, would be the only way to do it and not cause a problem.
Note: ManOfRust beat me to the discussions link. |

I think there should be a thread for recommendations to be asked in. Sometimes your looking for something very specific that searches just cant find
But I understand why they are banned. They DO clog up the forum. Which is why I think there should be a "Ask for recommendations here!" thread. But as far as I am aware, no, recommendations are still a no-no. I think the people in charge would have said something if they werent. |

I know what you are talking about, but every few months I used to make a well thought out and detailed thread looking for new series and this led me to all sorts of shows I enjoyed. Far as researching myself goes, like I said in my first post, its not the way I like to go about finding new shows to watch. It's not like I'm gonna be putting out "lol i leik dbz" and yes, wish we had our own forum or area to post these in. |

I think that the sort of recommendation that thread that WOULD be allowed is the type that says "Hey guys, I'm interested in Series A and Series B but can only afford one. Can anyone give me an opinion as to which one to get? Here's a link to my "My Anime" so that you can see what I like and what I've watched before."
That sort of recommendation thread might be allowed especially if you word it right and maybe say what is attracting you to both series. But if you feel uncomfortable about doing that, you can always PM one of the mods and ask if it's okay and even say in the thread that you PM'd so-and-so. But the "yuk yuk i loves anymays any animaes can you give me new ones to watches" should not be allowed ever again! |

I'd really like to figure out a way around this, but I just don't have the time to sit around and think these days. If anyone can think of a new and less faulty system, I wouldn't mind some suggestions, though keep in mind it all comes down to Admin. in the end, so make them good.

You could make a recommendation thread, but I think it would just invite all the people who can't make decent posts to just say stuff that doesn't even adhere to the rules. LIsting in posts would probably rise 150 percent, as well as one liners, poor grammar, the list goes on. I think that the staff would like to allow recommendation threads, but a lot of the time people can't make a decent enough request, and there's too many of them. |

While I'm at it, is it too much to ask that all of the old recommendation threads get deleted? I know you've said before that you were asked not to, but they really are a pain in the ass when you're trying to do a search. |

Why not just make a whole section related to recommendations? Like there is a section for anime, manga, events, merchandise, etc. That way, anyone who wants to have a discussion can have it in another section. But for people who are looking for titles based on the opinions of real readers (not the company's editors), they can have it too. There obviously enough people who would visit the section.

That's what the "My Anime" public lists are for. At least that's one of the first places that I go to concerning some anime that I'm waffling over. I usually check and see what various users have to say about it. But, I usually look at the lists of the people who's opinions I've seen before, for example: Tony K., Zalis 116 or fighterholic. I don't know. I know that I made a suggestion of HOW to write one but as to whether or not there should be a sticky...I don't know. There really are a lot of stickies already. |

I'd prefer there not to be any more stickies or any more forums. There's plenty of other anime forums out there that allow recommendations.
I have often wanted to ask the ANN Community what sort of anime I should watch if I like a certain type of genre. I think a more convenient way to find a series to watch for everyone would be to upgrade the search feature. I'm often desperate to search for series all in one Genre. The My Anime lists help to an extent so do the Best Rated lists, but I'd like an easier way of surfing through the encyclopedia. Something like iTunes has - where you go to the Music Store of one artist and underneath you see a small list of "Fans of X also listen to ___,___,___". Also a link to each genre that is listed under a certain anime. For example Naruto where it has Genres: Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Shounen, a link to all the anime listed under the same genre. |

Dude, how are you going to post if there's no forums to post in?
I really need to do some updating on the anime that I've been watching, like leaving comments and such. School and work can prove to be the only things in your life at times |
