This guy is a total goofball in real life lol, not only that but he doesn't look like you're everyday Japanese man nor takes himself serious like one. He looks more Cambodian. Only this man can spawn such unusual works. What a legend. Very Happy

Well he is from the south. In a city as big and packed with people in Tokyo you can tell a part who's from the south especially with Kansai or Osaka-ben dialect. xD

This is 1 of those Japanese industry guests that 1 might not think would appear at AX unless it was at adult panel given what he pioneered.

Appearing for CNN: Laughing

Hahahahaha........ talking about racy foodgasms tentacle porn, ya guys should watch Chef Bourdain's Parts Unknown: Tokyo that aired last night and re-airs on CNN.

Let's just say it's not just about Japanese food pr0n - IIRC there's maid cafe, BL manga, young men host bar for women, shibari (bondage), etc. Heck, they sat down with Urotsukidoji's Toshio Maeda, the god of tentacle porn! Cool
(That's him below on the right, showing off his tentacle manga out in the open restaurant - his English is pretty good.)

  • So in many ways, this show is about fantasy -- as much as anything else.

I hope this news will temper, slightly, the reaction of the more easily offended who watch this episode, as it contains images and subject matter of a decidedly "mature" and even offensive nature.

This is a "difficult" show. And I hope it doesn't frighten anyone away from one of the most fascinating and deeply enjoyable places to visit, experience and learn a little about on earth.

It's easily one of the most brilliantly shot and edited episodes we've ever done. Tasked with evoking the work of Japanese auteur Shin'ya Tsukamoto, ("Tokyo Fist" and "Tetsuo, Iron Man"), The ZPZ crew came up with something truly mind-boggling.

If you ever saw the uncut version, your heads would explode.

Check out this clip (BTW the show itself has this "Parental Advisory. This Program is for Mature Adults. NOT for kiddies!"):

I like that cute short maid outfit :3

Anyway, yes Maeda-san is a really special person very much unlike a lot of other Japanese. Very non-conforming, as in a bit of a rebel. Also very interesting, a lot of fun to talk with, and he has a lot of fun stories to tell. Fun fact: he told us he hasn´t read any manga for the past 20 years or so because it is his job now, so he really doesn´t know much about series like fairy tail and other popular books/shows Anime hyper

(He was at Tsunacon here in the Netherlands in February, and me and 5 other people got the chance to go drink with him in a nearby hotel after the con. It was really, really cool!)

I met Toshio Maeda when he came to Puerto Rico Comicon in 2012, and he was just the coolest guy. He was laid back, very eager to talk (his English was good, and his wife was fluent in Spanish), and just all-around chill. I felt bad for the guy: he was hidden in the back of the con floor, and barely anybody noticed him.

I had a chance to meet him in person at NYCC a couple of years ago in Artist Alley and chat with him. He was distraught that everyone keeps asking him to draw tentacles at the show. As a joke I told him that he should just draw a tako next time someone ask him to do it. He had a eureka moment look and happily tells me "That's a GREAT idea!"

Maeda's a fun guy. Absolutely loved his adult panel at AX last year, and a couple of friends and I will be heading out for drinks with Maeda this year. AX being AX, the drinks will probably be the highlight of my convention experience.

Thanks for the heads up about his wife speaking Spanish. I speak Spanish as well, so I'll have to chat her up.
