They don't owe him shit after he snubbed them before. Doesn't matter if he was boycotting America's involvement in Iraq, you can bet the Academy takes that stuff personally. They're not a purely objective crowd, politicking and hobnobbing is part of the game.

walw: Right. They take that stuff so personally that they gave Marlon Brando a third Oscar nomination after The Godfather. Rolling Eyes

It was just a matter of time. But it'll be in November instead of February/March when the Oscars air? I wanted to see him on stage...

Am surprised they took this long to give Maureen O'Hara one. I though they wait a bit longer before giving Hayao one.

Chances that he would actually show up are insanely slim (I mean, the man has even turned down an invitation from the Japanese emperor), so no point in getting disappointed for that. Also, IIRC, during the ceremony there is a part in which they show the highlights of the Governors Award ceremony, so even if he doesn't attend (I'm pretty sure he won't), there'll be a video of the award being "handed"

Still though, Frozen? For shame, Academy...

Honorary Oscars are no longer presented during the normal ceremonies. It's been this way for a few years now.

I agree! I actually loved Frozen, but no way did it deserve the award over The Wind Rises. The difference in quality of film-making is like night and day. At least they are honoring him here, and I think if you were to give an award to any of his films Spirited Away definitely deserves it.

Well,if anyone deserves an honorary award for his years of work,it's Hayao Miyazaki. No disrespect to Hastati, but I hope that both "Frozen" and "The Wind Rises" gets an Oscar. It seems they both deserves that award.

One of the concessions made to crappy failed TV-ceremony hosts like Chris Rock and Seth MacFarlane pandering cheap jokes to audience complaints of the Oscar show "running too long", was that the Lifetime Achievement award and the Irving Thalberg award, like the Technical awards, have now been moved to a separate tribute ceremony in November, and only excerpts shown later on the March ceremony.
Those who have a problem with that...well, maybe you should've thought of that before you made the cheap gags. Mad

(Besides, I refuse to live in a world where Hal Needham, Blake Edwards and Jeffrey Katzenberg have Honorary-tribute Oscars, and Miyazaki DOESN'T.)
