The only other people I recognize in those images besides Luffy are Kenshin and Giorno.

Goes to show how much I know about 1997-era Shonen Jump.

At this point One Piece might as well start printing its own money.

Shocked

When you stop and think about it, One Piece really has been serializing that entire time. Funny how little I think about it. Its only when the article title specifically mentioned it did it hit me.

When One Piece started, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure was already on Part V.

Now if only they would release ALL Weekly Shonen Jump magazines digitally, I'd gladly pay a $1 or so per issue just to have all the color pages of the mangas I like.. Hopefully they do this, I would love to see the first issue and the series it had.

Oda actually worked on Kenshin as one of the assistant artist. Kenshin's creator Nobuhiro Watsuki actually gave a shoutout to Oda by drawing the Strawhat jolly roger on one of the bombs used by an enemy in the final arc.

Naruto started and ended its serialization while One Piece was (and still is) in publication.

Do you mean $1 per series, or $1 per full-color issue?

I suppose Viz's does run for less than $1, albeit not full color.

That one image makes me want to re-read all of Hoshin Engi - such a great shounen manga! Even though both Fujisaki and Kenshin's Watsuki each got another series with an anime (Shiki and Busou Renkin, respectively), I don't think they ever quite captured the same magic they had with Engi and Kenshin.
