Don't care really, I've considered MTV nothing more than trash for many years now and as such never watch it. Also, this isn't really Semi-OT, it's completely OT and I see it being locked sometime soon.

and how is it off topic? Volcano High is based on a manga, so pardon me for thinking someone would care about them ruining great japanese cinema.

This is not the first time a company has taken a kung-fu movie and hacked the dubbing. They do it regularly on FUSE, and the monster parody..........whatever, let them do it, I can only sense downfall on those decisions though.

The thing is it's not Japanese cinema, as the article states it's a KOREAN kung fu film. Besides, the entire article is about MTV upping their movie budget to get 1 movie a quarter, and in your orginal post, there was nothing stating exactly what they should die a thousand deaths for, which implies the entire article, not 1 sentence of an article. So, it's mostly about MTV movies, and therefore completely off-topic. Besides, I couldn't find anything in the Encyclopedia on Volcano High, not the end all be all of Anime/Manga-dom, but close enough, though it could just be an oversight.

Come on, guys. Don't you have anything better to do than argue whether or not a thread is off-topic? It's a waste of everybody's time.

If anyone's interested in discussing MTV and "Volcano High," please feel free. Anything else, and this topic's locked.

Putting things back on track, I don't know what MTV is thinking. They just focus on the music videos and leave asian cinema to the experts. We don't need MTV expanding into something it shouldn't. [sarcasm]Anyone else remember when MTV actually showed music videos? [/sarcasm]

yes, i do, and they still do. most come on early in the morning or late at night. they also have several programming blocks designated for showing diferent genre music videos. i think that "volcano high" [should] be hilarious.

Let us not forget the movie Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. If that can make it into theaters and get a somewhat cult cinima following then this is nothing.

Bah, if you're going to cry over something, try something more important.

Sorry for dragging up this really old thread.

I saw a commercial for this yesterday. It is coming on this Sunday at 9 P.M. EST for all those who care. I'm probably not gonna watch it...maybe I'll record it so I can watch it when I see the real thing.

The only thing that looks at all promising(besides the action) is the fact that Pat Morita does a voice. Other then that its just a bunch of rappers and stuff.

Don't be so down, buddy - How can you go wrong with Method Man in a Kung Fu movie?
I'm watching!

MTV just plain sucks. Just like this one guy said on the radio "and on the eigth day God made rock n' roll, and it was all good, up until 1980 when MTV was created, I think that was made by the other guy." Yes, Kung-Pow was funny, but, MTV should keep the joke up, it's been done and it should be left alone.

Remember, MTV recently bought the broadcast rights to "Heat Guy J", so I'm actually not surprised they're branching out into something like this.

But it does kinda make you wonder: what kind of identity is MTV trying to make for itself these days? It's no longer much of a music channel, it's flooded with reality shows...you get the picture. It has no identity anymore.

Agreed! And it should've just stuck with music, like VH1. MTV should stick with music, at least that's what it's semi good at doing. Surprised

Note: Kung Fu is a Chinese martial art. Tae Kwon Do is Korean. Anyway, like Miramaxe, the sub-licensor is also issuing an injunction against certain dealers that have imports of Volcano High. (In fact, I think they worked with Miramaxe on acquiring certain films...) Dreamworks is remaking the Korean movie My Sassy Girl, so hopefully they'll have the original like they did with Ring. Just support that and boycott whatever other versions of Asian films are out there as usual.
