I don't blame creators with the gruelling schedule hey normally gave to work to. An opportunity to take longer to work on their chapters is probably quite welcome.

I assume this shift to digital is being done across the board to all of Jump's manga. At least to the ones already not being done entirely in digital.

I think One Piece is on break this week, too. Gonna be slim SJ pickings tomorrow. I wish them luck, though.

Why exactly does, "switch to digital" mean? Are they gonna draw it digitally or communicate with assistants and all digitally.

The article itself talks about analog, so it's clear it's digital drawing methods.
When they get used to it, it will probably significantly increase the speed at which they work.

I completely support artists being trained on traditional analog methods, but it seems foolish that the staff weren't already doing most work on the manga in a digital format. Digital is much easier to manage and maintain than analog.

I have seen Horikoshi drawing on YT, he draws by hand and colors with a PC, so, he knows how to use it.

Most probably the problem is his assistants lacking the proper equipment like high quality printers/scanners (which are SUPER expensive, maybe even $15K each) and decent PCs, since if everybody is on the same room you only need one of those and now need 5 or so plus installation.

The mangaka behind Rent-A-Girlfriend was in a video this year where it shows off his workplace and how his assistants help him out by toning and drawing digitally. https://youtu.be/t3rKrTehORY

So I'm assuming that Horikoshi-sensei will be drawing analog still but scanning in the art and his assistants will be toning/beta digitally. I know he can probably draw digitally but Clip Studio Paint is a different process overall.
