Who is Cramer?
Seen this manga for sale many times over the years, and always just assumed Cramer was the male or harem lead for this series. Reading the sparse wikis, that doesn't seem to be the case. So what is this Cramer, part of a Japanese pun or a literary device? |

I would think that would only be obvious to soccer/football fans. But thanks for answering. |

Did Kodansha change the title for the physical edition? Because all I’m seeing is “Sayonara Football” on Amazon and Rightstuf. What’s even more confusing is that the cover art for the physical books are completely different from the digital manga, so you can’t even tell it’s the same series. Really confused what’s going on...
Edit: Okay I did some research and apparently Sayonara Football was a 2-volume series from 2009, and Kodansha has listings for them in September and November this year for English physical release. I then see “ Sayonara, Football 3: Farewell, My Dear Cramer” releasing in January 2021, with “Sayonara, Football 4: Farewell, My Dear Cramer” and the same title as volume 5 releasing in March and May 2021. The main series (Cramer) is 12 volumes at this point, it’s gonna confuse a lot of people if Kodansha prints them with a new volume count in order to include the prequel series (if that’s what it is). |

If what ever production studio can deliver highly animated soccer action and drama, I'd say it can be as good as most of the popular guys' sports anime. Well, that's what I hope will happen. |

Neat. I really like this manga.... just bring the whole staff that worked on KimiUso to work on this.

I've heard so many good things about this series - that it's a rare girls' sports series that both has mass appeal and takes its characters and their sport seriously - but after Your Lie in April, it's hard for me to believe Arakawa can write female characters well. Guess I'll see!

Yeah, "Sayonara" is a prequel, featuring one on the main characters in middle school. So the digital "Farewell" volume 1 will be "Sayonara" volume 3 in print. The biggest problem is the art evolution between volumes 2 and 3, but the two series tie together pretty well in terms of themes and "Sayonara, Football" is a better title for the English-speaking market (see other's comments about who "Cramer" is) |

you confused me more. they all seem to have "Sayonara" in the title lol. " So the digital "Farewell" volume 1 will be "Sayonara" volume 3 in print. " They should just release things with their correct titles. If anyone dies in this I'm gonna be upset lol |

There are two manga. Both are about a girl called Onda. The first one, "Sayonara Football" is about Onda in middle school. It's about how her school doesn't have a girl's football team and she has to play with the boys. The sequel manga is called "Sayonara watashi no Cramer" and even though the plot summary talks about two girls called Suo and Midori, this manga is actually about Onda all over again, only this time in high school. This time around Onda actually gets a team of girls to play with so it's much more interesting than the prequel. I guess Kodansha is releasing both series as a single one under the same title. That could indeed get confusing but it can't be helped I guess. |

Does the protagonist have a traumatic abusive childhood because his dad was a strict soccer coach, so he refuses to play, but some obnoxious brat of a girl harasses him into playing again, and it's all treated like it was for his own good? Oh, and the protagonist, despite his child abuse backstory, is constantly used for violent slapstick? Oh, I also hope that they try to make us feel sorry for his abusers, even though they're perfectly aware what they did was wrong and did it anyway. I'd also like a shitty love-triangle between the obnoxious girl and the childhood friend who throws a bitch-fit because she got friendzoned.

Here's an article that breaks down just a few of the many reasons it's emotionally manipulative garbage. |
