This doesn't surprise me.

Konami made rules about personal hygiene for Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments a few years ago

Conventions, at least in the U.S., have pleaded with attendees to bathe at least once per day while attending.

These people are reinforcing the notion that ''nerds do not bath'' trope that some of the older media used to portray, like cmon guys, personal hygiene is important.

I mean, they have heavy duty deodorant out there that works well even on hot days and in crowds. Regular bathing is important too naturally, but it is not the only thing you can do to stay fresh.

No, Japanese deodorant is worthless. It doesn't work. I have no idea why they don't copy the formula used by American brands.

I find this to be hilarious, it's like we are back to the 2000's again with the whole "smelly otaku" stereotype in full force. Anyway just put some deordorant on or just take a shower beforehand both work.

It has to do with a difference in genes that Americans have versus the Japanese, so because of that, they don't need as strong deodorant.

"while others have commented with amusement that of course card game geeks would have hygiene issues"
Regardless of what people should be doing, I don't think insulting others or people generalizing with stereotypes should be put in light wording.

In some ways I admire these people. I myself can NEVER leave the house without showering. I just feel too icky and dirty. It must feel nice to just not care at all how you present yourself.

I get what you mean, but it is a slippery slope that can turn you into someone who cares zero about their overall hygiene/presentation. Why brush your teeth, tidy your hair or not wear the same shirt for a week if you do not care at all?

I don't think the store was stereotyping any group. They were reacting to an observed characteristics of their shoppers. You don't risk upsetting or limiting your customers unless you have an actual problem.
