I'm actually really happy to see them print a Shouji Gatou novel. I feel like the KyoAni era where Shouji Gatou was regularly involved in their stuff was when KyoAni was at its best

Just too bad they won't allow anyone to license any of that stuff under their imprint. In that they're as bad as Alphapolis which acts likewise(note though Alphapolis do license their manga).
