I can't think of anyone more qualified to follow in Atsuko Tanaka's footsteps than Miyuki Sawashiro.
Also it's nice to see Sawashiro-san get a semi-regular Conan character after voicing Akako in Magic Kaito and Narumi in the remake of the Moonlight Sonata case. |

As a 20 plus year fan of this franchise... WHY!!!?!? No seriously she has only two cases animated that even have her in it. and the manga hasn't mentioned her in well over a year and a half. The only thing we can really say about her is that she likes motorcycles and rides them well. and that her brother is the least memorable of the police academy detectives that died..... She has zero plot relevance, is the most superficial character in the franchise almost I would say. You have tons and tons of old legacy characters that haven't been mentioned in years, but instead you choose the discard failed new character? even among the other police how about giving chiba and mike some spot light or yumi, shiratori, or masumi sera some spotlight. Heck you could even do a movie where mouri kogoro has to be actively lead in the right direction on a case by conan involving yoko okino or have a osaka case heavily involving heiji and kazuhas parents and what they think of their families inevitably joining together. heck doing a movie of when scotch is under cover or the FBI trio they are all at least detectives instead of a traffic cop. |

None of these movies have ever focused on just one member of the peripheral cast, so I don’t really get the outrage. If she’s the focus of the film, then we’ll almost certainly get to see several other BPD characters in action.

Did I over reaction yes, but i still stand by the points that I made. The past ten movies largely could have been called movies about shuichi akai, kaito kid, torru amuro, heiji/kauzha/momiji, torru amuro, sonoko/makato, akai family, sato/takagi wedding, ai haibara, kaito kid, nagano and finally the nagano trio of detectives. Yes the nagano detectives are not tied to the main plot, but at the very least they are well established charcters who are getting an established back story fleshed out that could most likely actually use the extra budget/animation. I do agree that this new movie could try to do something similar but honestly it makes no sense to me why she was even introduced. Honestly we could try something even masked yaiba (since the yaiba remake is happening) or gomera related. We also could use an actual ran x shinichi movie, or even movies for any of the other Metropolitan police love story couples would make a lot of sense. They can probably do a fine movie about her, but I just dont understand why they'd prioritize her, when she seems to be a very tacked on character. |

You can say you still stand by your earlier point, but sorry, I'm not 100% clear on what that point even is. The Conan movies have always done a pretty good job of incorporating a significant chunk of the secondary/tertiary cast in each movie, and shifting the casts around from one movie to the next. There are a huge number of characters in this series, so obviously not everyone is gonna be able to feature in every movie. You're acting like it's been a decade since you last saw Sera or Yumi have a prominent role in one of these films, but it was literally just 4 years ago -- both were a big part of The Scarlet Bullet (movie #24, from 2021). You can use the word "only" when listing off signficant characters from the past 10 films, but there's no "only" about it when the list you're reciting is both far from complete, and far longer than the number of films you're singling out.
You seem to be somehow simultaneously complaining about the movie failing to shine a spotlight on characters you think have been neglected, as well as the fact that this movie is going to... shine a spotlight on a character who hasn't been explored very much (at all) in the manga or anime? I dunno. I'd recommend just waiting for the movie to come out, and judging it then. And even if it does somehow manage to avoid using any of your favorite characters, it's not like you'll have to wait long to see them in the next movie. |

Is this movie doomed to being worse then Jolly Roger in the Deep Azure absolutely not. I would much rather they stick to the new model of spotlighting side characters that could use more time and love and have them actually mean something other then the 00's yearly movie franchise releases. And no it's not long till the next one.
That said To me this makes less then making a movie about any of these following charcters with longer wiki entries then her. and if I am wrong by all means tell me a reason to choose her over any of these characters. other then she has a motorcycle, a dead brother, and was relatively recently introduced to the series. Junya Tokitsu, Mei Tsukuba, Natsuki Koshimizu, Misao Yamamura, Fumimaro Ayanokoji, Sango/jugo Yokomizo, Goro Otaki, Ginshiro Toyama, Heizo Hattori,Chiba/Mike, Inspector Yuminaga and mouri, Ninzaburo_Shiratori/ the detective boys, Juzo Megure or doctor agasa. My problem is that there is a difference between giving a under utilized character a spot light, and pushing "the new hotness" that has no substance. |

Jolly Roger was a good movie though. The worst will always be Quarter of Silence. I'm honestly tired of Conan movies focusing on the plot or moving characters forward. I'd rather go back to a good, big budget mystery case. Time Bombed Skyscraper, The Fourteenth Target, Captured in Her Eyes, Lost Ship in the Sky. If they want to focus on a random side character then I'm fine with that. |

Quarter of Silence and Jolly Roger are both squarely in the "just okay" tier for me, along with most of the movies. The only ones I'd rank below average are Raven Chaser and Zero the Enforcer.
Meanwhile I'd rank Countdown to Heaven, Phantom of Baker Street, Darkest Nightmare, and Scarlet Bullet at the top. And maybe also Eleventh Striker, though I'd need to rewatch it (and also the 3 most recent movies) to have a firmer idea of how I'd rate it. |

I am glad I am not the only one who felt zero the enforcer was super weak. I assumed it was just because I don't care for amoru toru but it's nice that Im not the only one. strategy above the depths, fist of blue sapphire, and jolly Rodger I also remember being weak.
I really liked the phantom of baker street and countdown to heaven of the original ones. black iron submarine, and bride of Halloween I really liked actually. I am actually quite excited for this years one eyed flashback, since I have always really liked the nagano trio |
