Any general description of Is It Wrong (aka DanMachi) is going to make it sound more generic than it actually is, so even as a fan of the franchise since before it got animated, I can't fault someone unfamiliar with it for being skeptical of it. But the series does prove itself worthy if given a chance. The way the gods are handled is, indeed, a key part of that (the series is clearly very well-researched on mythology), as is the foundational Bell/Hestia relationship, but it's also the action elements, the music, and the drama it can present as well. Most importantly, its writers and animators understand better than most how to properly execute dramatic staging. As a result, the series captures the essence of heroic high fantasy as well as any other fantasy series out there.

Oh yay, thanks for mentioning and talking about Dear Brother aka Oniisama e... on here. That reminds me, I need to finish watching this show (I've been busy with non-anime/manga related stuff that I lost track and time on it).

Agreed. In many ways, the things that may prevent someone from giving it a chance based on what's on the tin end up being kind of incidental to it. Heck, the title is even slightly misleading in that the Dungeon aspect is more important than you'd expect or that Bell doesn't really "pick up" girls. Sure, many end up falling for him, but for pretty believable reasons well outside of merely being protag-kun. |

Fun bit of trivia about Love Stage: I'm pretty sure DAIGO is actually the brother of one of the artists behind the manga. Just something that came up in an afterword in some other series at least one of them worked on.
I watched a few episodes of Dear Brother many moons ago when it was streaming on something called Viki (I think?). Fascinating series that gets referenced in some surprising places, including the slightly obscure Space Pirate Mito, where one eyecatch or preview uses "Oneesama, my tears won't stop!" as an echo of Dear Brother's catchphrase. I picked up the Blurays a while ago and I've been meaning to watch them at some point. |

Anime News Network sure can't stop talking about cute boys and BL/yaoi.... and I can't stop loving it! Even the boys enjoy the genre. I read this article and it was a nice read. Love the very straight-forward "We Love Boys' Love" title. One of ANN's best articles ever and BL is indeed for everyone. Please keep on making more BL news, ANN!
You got that right, Chris. Boys are cute, especially if they are gay. I love that picture of Izumi being stripped so much, I made it my avatar. Love Stage looks sexy. I need to watch it along with Sasaki and Miyano. I still have to read/watch a lot of classic and modern BL titles but I watched Stranger by the Shore and it was such a sweet touching little BL movie. I also read the review here. The movie only covered the first volume, I believe. Stranger by the Shore getting a TV anime would be a great Christmas gift! I would love to know Lynzee and Rebecca's BL recommendations! PS: I hope Umemiya and Tsubaki from Wind Breakers become an item in the future and they will kiss each other! |
