Such a travesty this is not getting a subbed release. I would have immediately purchased tickets for that.

this has to be one of the biggest wastes of money ever. there's no way they'll make any profit on this screening. Basically no one who likes this franchise likes the dub. It's a musical series - those NEVER work well dubbed

Please let there be a future blu-ray release for this one--especially since we've yet to get any for the Kobayashi's Dragon Maid and Gridman Universe movies.

Count me as basically no one then. If anything, I was more disappointed that Crunchyroll decided not to do English versions of the songs for season 2 after they were done in English for season 1. I would also guess that if they were deciding between languages for a single screening, they went with the one with more viewership from streaming.
That said, one screening with less than two weeks from announcement is probably the bigger hindrance.

The article mentions the songs will still be in Japanese, so it is not complete lost. It still sucks not subbed since the JP cast is so good (Mamoru Miyano hilarious), and since Tae actually has speaking parts.

Same here. My main takeaway from this news is that I'm glad to learn the movie was dubbed after all.

I'm more inclined to see the dub than the sub (though I've watched the show both ways) but unfortunately this doesn't seem to be screening near me.

I’d prefer to see it subbed, but I have to admit that, in the theater, subs mean you miss a lot of the movie because your eyes are on the bottom of the screen. Anyway, here’s one sub-snob who has gotten his ticket for this screening.

I guess if the'll only show the English dub, there is no way they're showing the movie in non-English speaking countries? Guess I'll have to wait for the disc to drop and then hope we get fansubs like always...

I don't mind the dub, so I'll go see this if it's screening in my area. (And most anime films - even those in releases as limited as this - do.) Been having trouble finding a theater which will be showing it, though; if there's a master list of such theaters somewhere, I'm missing it.

Even disregarding any sub vs. dub debates, I think the fact that the songs remain in Japanese demonstrates the whole futility of this release - if you're not going to bother going the whole way, why bother with a dub-only screening. It feels like there was an obligation somewhere down the chain to release this so they made as low-effort a release as they could afford to

Yeah, THAT'S the part that gets me. The VA cast was chosen specifically because they COULD sing, and they DID sing in S1. That for whatever reason (I don't know if it's budget or some sort of copyright licensing thing) they aren't doing that for S2 or the movie is a tragedy.
Make no mistake, I love the JP track and Franchouchou Original Flavor (particularly the joke that seiyu legend Kotono Mitsuishi plays someone whose lines for the bulk of her tenure are just groans), but saying that true ZLS fans don't want anything but JP is preposterous gatekeeping. There is fun to be had in the dub. However, it makes zero sense to me to not have released this in sub format rather than this worst-of-both-worlds approach,

Not dubbing the songs comes down to Crunchyroll not dubbing songs at all. Funimation dubbed them for season 1, but they were the only one that bothered to do that regularly when permitted. Crunchyroll does like everyone else and leaves songs in Japanese. It isn't anything to do with this particular release.
I had a chance to talk to Stephanie Young about it a couple years ago, and she was pretty disappointed that Crunchyroll ended that aspect, especially since the English cast was chosen with singing ability in mind.

I saw the trailer, and this looks like a whole new level of happy craziness. I hope the movie and it's showing are both a success, I did like the show's two seasons.
This theatrical release is part of a series of promotional showings for anime, one night each month, so, well, yeah, choices had to be made ( or maybe just corners had to be cut ). I really hope a physical release happens, so any sub/dub problems go away and the fandom stays happy.

And I think that would be an acceptable (if incredibly lame, as was the case with Revenge) compromise, IF both dubbed and subbed screenings were being offered. But instead CR just comes across as cheap, wanting to just get this over with through as little effort as possible on as few theater screens as they are contractually obligated for
