Oh yay, I’m glad Rebecca’s reviewing this series

I’m assuming his white witch heritage is the main reason why they want him dead?

Not a huge fan of Claude being The Exposition Guy in EP3, considering that pretty much most of it was perfectly clear from context cues anyway.

One thing I was confused though, is that it was stated that only ones with a power to stop The End Of All Things are known as "Poison Magicians", but then silhouettes of Black Witches Council members are shown. Is this some translation shenanigans, or more of a "common folk don't know that these two are the same thing"? Latter would explain why authorities mostly leave Black Witches to their own devices, despite them technically being outlaws.

Edit. Oh, one more thing. It's so silly how all the witches are tied to some natural phenomena, and then there is "Eastern Witch", just hanging out in her conical hat.

Considering that ep 3 only just aired, revealing the cliff-hanger for its ending is a bit spoilery. Or is it assumed that people only read the reviews after watching the show?

The basic elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Asian.

I will say, the witches council wouldn't be out of place in Adventure Time either.

This was initially not in my watch list because for some reason, I thought this was a yuri anime (no hate, just not in the mood for it lately). All the Mikan-Hotaru subtext and fan shipping in Gakuen Alice must have really affected my perception. Lo and behold, my mouth is on the floor after the first episode, as it is IMO one of the best premieres of the season alongside Journal with Witch and Polar Opposites.

Also, it has one of the most unique OP/ED I've seen in a while. If one looks closely, the OP and ED are the exact same set of scenes, only focusing on different characters (Luna for the OP and the cursed youngling for the ED).

I do agree that murder is inexcusable. I also agree the witches should be more sympathetic to Luna and ensure she doesn't live a lonely life.
However, there is something to be said for the fire witch.
If there have truly been multiple cases of disaster because of a Cursed Youngling, it is good to be cautious.
Sometimes empathy can kill you.
A good example is in Frieren. The demons can speak and utter cute things. Shouldn't we give them a chance?
So the answer is that it depends on the situation.
I would almost always side with the Lunas, but I get where they're coming from.

Well, in case of Frieren "giving demons a chance" had happened on multiple occurrences and each time ended in a disaster. Here it seems like saving cursed youngling actually worked once but then everyone instantly went "nah, probably a fluke".

Ep 5

I don't think Lizel is a very common name even in Euro-flavored anime, yet oddly enough we now have two main characters with that name this season. Very Happy

So much for keeping your true name a secret, kid.

I saw on MAL where a Crappyroll support person stated they lost the license for Champignon Witch. Yet it’s available with English subs on Amazon’s Crappyroll channel and the seas.

I’ve never heard of them losing a license during the middle of the season and I’ve been watching anime for many years. Anyone wanna take a guess if we’ll ever see episodes 6-12?

The only thing I know is that Champignon Witch 1-5 are available in CR in this side of the pond.

I guess if they had lost that licence, they would have lost those chapters too, wouldn't they?

That’s what I’m thinking myself but I don’t know how licensing works so I’m not totally sure. I do know if the US license is lost that doesn’t impact other countries licenses. I know CR has had some problems with getting current episodes out on time and there’s been lots of issues with English subs missing words in sentences. So who knows what is happening over there. Makes you wonder why we have to suddenly pay more for a service that has been having worse quality lately.

Episode 6 is available on CR now (in the US at least, I cannot speak for other regions).

Thank fudge the CR rep didn’t know what they were talking about! I’ve found that’s often true when dealing with them.

Thanks for letting us know, minamikaze!

These latest eps have been terrible. Claude is an absolute piece of shit and ruins every scene he's in, despite being wrong about everything. Being strict rather than loving with Lize is obviously making everything worse, and Claude's the primary culprit, but no one takes him to task for the evil he's doing.
