seems logical...i mean, netflix was already...kinda doing that...with stuff like kpop demon hunters and happy gilmore 2...i could even trace back to a few years ago with mitchells vs the machines. it also helps that sony doesn't have their own streaming platform (crunchyroll excluded). guessing this deal is just to get MORE sony films onto netflix.

Yeah, I've heard about this announcement via my social media, and my email newsletters when it comes to entertainment news. So looks like Netflix is getting a good deal, and I'll say it's a big win-win for both Sony and Netflix from what I read online.

I think this is the sort of article that would do well to provide a bit more context - like, what the heck is "Pay-1"?

From what I gather, it's a buzzword agreement that means one company gets to exclusively stream your content first before anyone else for a fixed period of time.

I wonder if this deal also affects physical releases from Sony.

If it's anything like the rest of the industry, it means their physical releases are gonna stop existing more and more so the streamers can arbitrarily decide you don't get to watch a thing anymore...

I don’t see any reason why this would effect physical releases as it’s only a deal to stream films and Sony still exists as an independent company. They've had similar deals with other studios like Dreamworks and Illumination and those are still releasing physical media.
