Saw it at a 1:40 Sunday afternoon showing (with Sunday being the slowest day of the weekend). I counted 27 customers in the theater, which I thought was pretty good. Most importantly, the film was great.

Hopefully Cygames doesn't look at the sub-million sales numbers and conclude that there isn't an audience in North America for their IP's and decide to stop releasing them in the future. A bigger problem was the relatively low number of theaters that screened the film as plenty of folks on Reddit complained about not being able to find a theater close to them.

Given what they spend on making these, it's surely already into profit after its run in Japan. So this is pure gravy. Not to mention it helps advertise / support the game, and a theatrical run usually helps home video and streaming numbers (although it will help the latter if it doesn't just appear in the US on Crunchyroll.) They didn't even have to dub it, so I can't imagine they spent much on its release here. You don't have to strike physical prints anymore, and advertising was minimal.

I agree about the number of theaters, but a bigger problem is the lack of advertising. I've learned to check out the listings at a couple of local theaters, because that's about the only way to learn if something like this is coming out. That's how I knew about this one, in fact.

It will be interesting to see how the 2nd Slime movie does. Meanwhile, more sauce for Infinity Castle when it's re-released here next weekend.

Well, sub-million sales literally correlates to the limited theater run with only 600 theaters in US which is way inferior to big ~2500 run releases for JJK/CSM/Demon Slayer movies, so here's that - plus it's not distributed by Cygames directly, but by the japanese distributor GAGA.

In fact, it actually did great compared to usual anime stuff, something like 100 Meters earned only 140k USD during it's week run in US (with a bit smaller run).
