I still find myself very optimistic. If it were just the one film, I'd be disappointed -- too little screentime to really tell a story especially well, especially at the scale VOTOMs best shines. But with two films to work with? That's a good amount of screentime, and movie-level animation quality is nothing to sneeze out.
Gotta say, though, I'm a little disappointed with the new Scopedog designs. The proportions are much more conventional, and a conventionally-proportioned Scopedog just looks like any one of the countless not-a-Zakus Sunrise has populated its mecha anime with over the past half-century -- which is, if nothing else, very appropriate, I guess.
But it does remove some of the uniqueness and charm from the design, which is a bit unfrotunate.
