That lists some "shorter" series. These are always good: Fushigi Yuugi Ceres Celestial Legend Full Moon wo Sagashite Maaann...I'm drawing a blank right now. I can think of more romance manga than anime... I mean there are a lot of "romance anime" out there, but some of it's just not worth mentioning. |

Maison Ikkoku: The real #1 romance anime.
Oh! My Goddess: Just plain pretty. Video Girl Ai: Another great classic. Saikano: A newcomer but brilliant. Urasei Yatsura: The originator Kimagure Orange Road: Touching and sweet. That's my list of suggestions. |

Although most have been named - For the most part, Crayest and I have common views from what I've seen in his posts. Guess it means he has good taste.
Of course Maison Ikkoku Kimagure Orange Road - started me down the path to the dark side Video Girl Ai Kare Kano Onegai Teacher and Onegai Twins Ai Yori Aoshi (maybe, depends on your thoughts on the harem anime - also too much filler between the good episodes/moments scattered throughout the series.) Love Hina (same as above, though the manga is a hundred times better) Marmalade Boy (surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet) Hime chan's Ribon Card Captor Sakura Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne Full Moon wo Sagashite - made me cry more than once. Saikano Boys over Flowers Hmm... at least I was able to add a couple to the list. |

I'll quote that quote as well. I'm not too sure about pawning off Saikano on the unweary. Its a bit harsh. I loved the series, but its like watching 13 episodes of 'Grave of the Fireflies'. IMO its not too different than suggesting End of Evangelion for Asuka/Shinji. |

Love Hina Xmas isn't the best, but unfortunately, it's the only one I've seen. Still though, I like it a lot.
Maybe I'll check these other ones out someday. |

Absotively. Loved Kare Kano. Actually Macross, while having a heavy mech/sf story, actually is almost like a soap opera with several different relationships going through it, though it's not dedicated relationship anime

Well, since this thread was recently revived, I guess I'll add something.
I rewatched Escaflowne the Movie this weekend, and found it much better than the first time I saw it (in English.) And, after watching it in Japanese 5.1 DTS under the voice talents of the original Japanese cast, I developed a new respect for the movie as opposed to what I thought of it before. I actually developed this from watching the extras disc that came with my Ulitmate Edition box and saw interviews with the cast and production crew. And based on what they said and what I saw, the movie actually holds more of a very subtle (I think) theme of romance in it. Though the story and atmosphere are much different from the TV series, I felt that the problems Hitomi and Van shared really gave them more to hope for in the end. But since it's a movie, it felt a little rushed. Still, aside from that probelm though, I think it's an "excellent" movie (by ANN's rating system.) |
