The given source http://library.finito-web.com/ani23.html for the only credit of Mitsuaki ARUYA lists his name as フルヤ (Furuya) ミツアキ (Mitsuaki), i. e. in Katakana, and whoever entered this person still got the romanization wrong.
The correct person (of whom this is a duplicate) would be Mitsuaki FURUYA. |

The first three episodes of Kiddy GiRL-and credit 渡部貴善 with inbetween animation. Given name is definitely Takayoshi but the family name is more vague - I discovered we had one possibility already listed Takayoshi WATABE, however the source given for their single credit (Guin Saga) gives different kanji which can be read the same way, 渡部貴喜 (which I added since it was missing). I couldn't confirm the reading for either, but to at least distinguish them I entered the new credit as Takayoshi WATANABE.
Now I find in the fourth episode of Kiddy girl-and a 渡辺貴善, again credited with in-between animation but this time specifically under Satelight. Since this can be read the same way again and I have seen typos in the credits while going through them before I'm suspicious that not only may the two guys from Kiddy Girl-and may be the same person, but possible the other guy also since Guin Saga is also by Satelight. There's also the fact that, according to this page, all three of them worked on various episodes of Shugo Chara!! Doki. It seems oddly coincidental that Satelight would employ three people at the same time who's names are synonymous, but I really don't know how to handle this. --edit - back to 渡部貴善 again in episode 5. --edit - and 渡辺貴善 for eps 6+7 ---- We look to have two people under Kouhei TANAKA, the music guy 田中公平 and the animator 田中耕平. ----- Kazumi SAKAI is two people. 1994-1995 is 酒井一実 1959-1960 is 酒井一美 |

Why did you add in katakana for the erroneous entry? It's good to be in the habit of entering kana/kanji for people, but don't do it on blatantly incorrect names. That is pointless and would cause the incorrect spelling to come up as an option whenever the actor's kana is entered for a new series. |

The source URL of this wrong person had them (and the person who entered this person should have done so in the first place, the duplicate would have been found much earlier then).
Whoever uses the katakana for entering credits will find both hits anyway and then be aware of the fact that there's a problem. I understand that you believe this might confuse such contributors but I believe that overall I'm doing more good than bad this way. Because this way I'm tagging the fact that this duplicate is identified (until you handle it, which you apparently don't have the staff to do - if you look up my contributions you will find that amongst them there are 1002 persons including 78 error reports so far, of which a mere 10 have been handled). If I don't enter the name in Japanese then ANN would still have a duplicate person that looks like no one knew a Japanese notation of its name. So I'm tagging the fact that ANN does know the Japanese notation of this person's name now - until you move the credits of said person away (which is the moment when the Japanese name is no longer relevant and you can delete the Japanese name in the process). I have begun to post "error" entries to my own Japanese name contributions (which is semantically wrong because they aren't the error, the romanization is, but given the database structure of ANN this isn't a field I can tag as error) in case I know this is a duplicate (this way you could systematically find them by simply handling all my error tags), such as for Masateru AIZAWA (reporting each and every duplicate to this thread I've given up long ago). I didn't do this consistently for all these duplicates until now, sometimes (when I find several of these for the same anime) I added the credit for the correct person to the anime as well and tag the wrong credit as "error" instead (which might then look like Zendaman (TV)). But this would make it harder to understand at first sight that this whole person is a duplicate instead of a mere credit mis-assignment within this one anime. I'm still searching for a way to add as much helpful information for the long time interval until error reports will be handled in the most visible way (which this thread isn't, contributors are more likely to read error tags for person resp. anime entries of credits they're about to enter than search this whole thread for each and every person). Having said that, this thread certainly does serve a purpose for describing more complex cases such as an ANN entry covering more than person and whatnot, things that the error tagging system can't reasonably model. Masahiro Motoki would be a prime example for this (just why am I almost certain that you won't like this notation either?). |

I get what you're saying there, but that would make more sense in certain cases, like kanji misreadings or alternate styles of romanization. This is just plain incorrect, though. There's no way to read フルヤ as "Aruya". Whoever entered the misspelling in the first place might have mistakenly thought they saw アルヤ (or the source may have had a mistake then that has since been corrected). It's a one-off mistake that very likely will never be made again, so there's no need to put any information in there. That one role has been removed, and you already had it entered under the correct name (that's good), so it's handled. |

Well, if it's handled it's fine anyway. It's not like I would object to you deleting those Katakana after solving the issue as they did serve their (potential) purpose already.

Daisuke GOSATO is a misreading of Daisuke GOURI (郷里大輔 - ri is the on'yomi of 里 and sato is the kun'yomi, but Gosato isn't even a real name)
---- Yuko SATO is duplicate of Yuuko SATOU (voice actress). She only has one role and this page confirms that it is 佐藤ゆうこ. ---- I created the new person Shin Tosaka as we did not have an entry for 登坂晋 who directed an episode of Kiddy GiRL-and. To flesh him out I've been adding his prior credits from Japanese database sites, and up until I added his work on Kotetsushin Jeeg there were no clashes, however I now find that he was already entered as Susumu TOSAKA with no Kanji. Shin and Susumu are both valid romanisations of 晋 and I honestly can't remember why I decided on the former, but it was probably on the basis of a google search for "登坂晋" "とさか". ---- Yoshio USUDA has a couple of duplicates - Yoshio USUTA is clearly just an alternate reading of 臼田, but we also have Mifu USUDA - み and ふ are valid on-readings of 美 and 夫, but not as a compound. To complicate things, allcinema says うすだ・みお. The Anime Staff Database confirms 臼田美夫 as key animator for R.O.D the TV, but I've not had much luck finding credit lists for Mouse. ---- [removed] ---- At least some of the credits under both Natsuko SATOU and Natsuko SATO belong to the same person, 佐藤菜津子. Kiddy Grade is definitely her, as are the following from the source links given: Second Renaissance Anyamaru Tantei Kiruminzuu The other credits are all congruent so are most likely her also, except: I can't find her on the source link for Kikaider, but there is a 藤奈津子 (Natsuko GOTO) in the right role, who is already correctly credited so this was probably a data entry error. The Judge OVA is almost certainly someone else given the role and date. Last edited by Shiroi Hane on Thu Mar 18, 2010 6:27 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Rob Bricken Robert Bricken I came across his name while entering information on Excel Saga. I suppose we could ask him to confirm it. In a similar vein, I think Brandon Scott Peters is the same person as Brandon Peters. Unfortunately, the only corroborating source I could find was IMDB. However, apparently the actor himself entered his birth date and hometown in the Brandon Scott Peters entry. Perhaps an editor could shoot him an email to confirm this and find out if he wants the two entries separate for union reasons. |

If it was a union thing, I don't think just missing out his middle name would fool many people :p

I know, but that's dormcat's biggest reason to hold off on merging people. And he might be in SAG under one name and AFTRA under the other or something silly like that. I don't know how these actor types think. ;P

Nobuhiko SAKAWA
Nobuhiro SAKAWA Both down as 酒匂暢彦, both involved in "planning". ----
This one is still outstanding 4 years later, e.g. the key animator for Princess Lover and Bantorra is 伊藤篤志(http://wiki.livedoor.jp/radioi_34/d/プリンセスラバー%21 and http://wiki.livedoor.jp/radioi_34/d/戦う司書%20The%20Book%20of%20Bantorra) and the producer for Kiddy GiRL-and and the Haruhi movie is 伊藤敦 (http://www.haruhi.tv/fanclub/syoshitsu.html and http://wiki.livedoor.jp/radioi_34/d/KIDDY%20GiRL-AND%20-キディ・ガーランド-) In addition, one of 伊藤篤志's key animation roles is currently attributed to Atsushi ITOH the J-Dorama actor. ---- I was entering data from the Japanese credits for Kiddy Grade as the Blurays just arrived and there are some gaps in our data. I wasn't expecting to find anyone new in the major roles for a show 7 years old but we didn't have the Kanji 神林名里 (the musical director) in our database. The first hit on likely readings for the name was Nari KANBAYASHI and since the role matched I used that and added the missing Kanji. Since it was odd that they have only two credits I did a little further checking and found other possible readings of their name in the database with no listed Kanji, but the roles did not match. I then checked the English DVD credits however they have her down as "Meiri Kanbayashi".
Meiri Kanbayashi exist in the database (with no kanji), but as an animation proucer for Noir. めいり is not on the list of possible readings for 名里 in Jeffrey's Dictionary and Wiktionary suggests that 名 is only read as mei when a prefix or suffix. Also credited as a Production Manager for Noir is "Nari KAMIBAYASHI" (again no Kanji) and "Meri KANABAYASHI" (no Kanji) We also have a "Meri KANBAYASHI" who is also a musical director with only one credit to her name. It looks like there are two people here spread across 5 entries: Nari KANBAYASHI and Meri KANBAYASHI are the musical director 神林名里 It is unlikely that Meri KANABAYASHI, Meiri KANBAYASHI and Nari KAMIBAYASHI all got together to produce Noir so they are the same person and I'm going to try and locate kanji for then now.. and it looks to be exactly the same unfortunately アニメーションプロデューサー:神林名里 http://www1.vecceed.ne.jp/~m-satomi/noir.html http://www.finito-web.com/library/ani27.html http://lain.gr.jp/modules/mediadb/detail_media.php?id=43 Allcinema also confirms the musical director roles in Sakura Taisen and Crystania, again for 神林名里: http://www.allcinema.net/prog/show_p.php?num_p=849227 Seems odd that there are two people with the same name who worked on only four shows between them, but the roles seem disparate enough that it is unlikely to be the same person? |

Apologies for the duplicate post, but the previous one was getting crowded.
I was looking for 渡邊美佳 who wrote the lyrics for the Kiddy Grade OP theme "Mirai no Kioku". We don't have that kanji on file, but we do have a Mika WATANABE which is the most likely reading and they do have other musical credits.. along with a few seiyuu roles and Advertising Producer on a couple of Ghibli titles and the Kanji on file for them is 渡辺美佳. I'm assuming that we have three people here, or at least two. The Ghibli person is 渡辺美佳 and it looks like they also worked on Whisper of the Heart and The Cat Returns (added) There are only two useful sources for the theme song credits and the one for Paniponi confirms 渡邊美佳, however the link for Shampoo Ouji muddles things by using 渡辺美佳, which I'm hoping is just a typo on their part.. The source for all the Seiyuu credits is Hitoshi Doi's site, which does not confirm the kanji. They are all minor roles also, which combined with being older shows makes tracking down online sources harder, e.g. D3 Station only has detailed information for Detective Conan episodes from 2000 onwards. I've found you can watch Romeo no Aoi Sora online, but you need to pay to do so which requires a Japanese address etc. Aha! Found a detailed cast list for Detective Conan: http://www.tcn.zaq.ne.jp/anime-shiryo/conancast.htm ひろし: 渡邊 美香 So, confirms a different person to the other two and thankfully has different Kanji to differentiate. ---- Bun HIDA Aya HIDA Both have the same Kanji (肥田文), both credited solely with "editing", both valid name readings but the former is most likely correct as other people with the same name use that reading: http://www.hidabun.co.jp/ http://www4.ocn.ne.jp/~hidabun/ ---- Takaomi KANESAKI (金崎貴臣) Takaomi KANEZAKI The two usable sources given for Kanezaki confirm they are the same person, and FUNimation used Kanezaki in their translation of the Kiddy Grade episode 1 credits. ---- 織岐一寛 is all over the place, probably because their family name seems somewhat uncommon. FUNimation came up with "Ikkan Oyama" which is clearly wrong. According to Allcinema it should be read as "Kazuhiro Oki" Kazuhiro OKI Kazuhiro ORICHIMATA Kazuhiro ORIKI Kazuhiro ORIMICHI They are quite prolific so it wouldn't surprise me if there were more variations scattered around: http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site:http://www1.vecceed.ne.jp/~m-satomi+%22織岐一寛%22 http://wiki.livedoor.jp/radioi_34/search?keywords=織岐一寛+ http://www7.atwiki.jp/anime_wiki/pages/2341.html http://www.allcinema.net/prog/show_p.php?num_p=467304 http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site:http://www.jmdb.ne.jp/+%22織岐一寛%22 |

Toshiko Asai (2 cast) is a romanization error duplicate of
Yoshiko Asai (17 cast) as http://shirayuki.web.infoseek.co.jp/anime/MiyuOAV.html gives the kanji 浅井淑子 for her role in Kyuuketsuki Miyu OVA, confirmed by http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/浅井淑子. (All of the Miyu OVA entries either completely lack a source or point to an URL that no longer exists; the shirayuki source would additionally provide episode precisions which I tagged as errors for the time being.) |

Yoshie ASAI (朝井 良江, 3 cast) is a former name of the aforementioned
Yoshiko ASAI (浅井 淑子, 17 cast) as explained in http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/朝井良江 which redirects 朝井 良江 to 浅井 淑子. (I prefer the shirayuki sources to those liner notes as the latter don't contain the missing kanji information for ANN person entries; the liner notes would be helpful for double-checking role name readings though.) |
