That's definitely the case for me. I had a longer list of nominations I would have put up if we didn't have to do write-ups but that takes longer and so I need to give each one a bit more attention, hence why mine have been coming mostly one at a time. Voting for Cornelia li Britannia, Code Geass* Nobu, Lovely Complex Takumi, NANA (I almost nominated him myself when I made the other two NANA noms) * Cornelia's inclusion has made made me realize that we are sorely missing a nomination for Euphie who I think really should be included. But it's been awhile since I watched Code Geass so I might not be the best person to write a guide entry for her (but I will definitely second the nomination). Um, egoist, unless I missed it, C.C. never got formally nominated. I'd certainly disallow her if she was.
I absolutely vote in favor of Tanda and Toradora's Ami. Don't know why I didn't think of those two myself, as both play critical supporting roles in their respective series. Madame Torogai should also probably be nominated; if someone writes her up, I'll second it automatically. And put my vote behind Misaki Kirihara, too, although we'll need to put the "franchise" tag on her entry. (She's arguably even more important in the second series.) And one NOMINATION follows. Though quite a bit about which character from this series to nominate, and I think this is the one: Armblast, Kiddy Grade pic Role: Auditor/Adviser (outwardly), ES Member (secretly) What Makes Him A Great Supporting Character: Armblast travels with Eclair and Lumiere (the heroines) for the first half of the series, occasionally doing his own thing but just as frequently advising them. As he departs their company at the halfway point he saves one of them and hangs around as an observer for most of the rest of the series. |

I actually picked my votes from the opener. I don't know if you already disabled her nomination, or if you're still counting the votes against her. If it's the first case, then just ignore it.
Even if she had more screening and more of a role, what she did was arguably unimportant to the story and plot. |

Voting for:
*Rick Thunderbolt, Oban Star-Racers I always forget about Oban, but it's a really enjoyable series. I think Rick is a great choice, but I'm thinking that so few people around here have seen the show that he may not stand much of a chance. At least, other than you (classicalzawa) and Keonyn, I don't remember seeing too many other people ever discussing it here. Still, a big part of the fun of these tournaments for me is finding out about stuff I didn't know much about before. I've ended up watching and enjoying several shows because of the positive comments they got during these tournaments, so it would be great if he makes the cut so maybe we can introduce the series to some new people. *Osono, Kiki's Delivery Service *Cornelia li Britannia, Code Geass *Tatiana Wisla, Last Exile I like the nomination of Tatiana better than that of Alex Rowe. I think Alex treads into main character territory so I won't vote for him even though I like the character, but it's enough of a gray area that I won't vote against him either. *Misaki Kirihara, Darker Than Black *Don Kanonji, Bleach *Armblast, Kiddy Grade I want to vote for Sanosuke from Rurouni Kenshin, but I really do think he's a main character. I love the series and the character is great, but he is very much central to everything that happens. Edit: Might as well do it instead of just thinking about it: Nominating: Hiko Seijuro, from Rurouni Kenshin, pic 1, pic 2 (being all badass)
Role: Comic relief, Kenshin's mentor, occasional badass, link to Kenshin's dark past Why he's a great supporting character: Surrogate parent, mentor, and sensei of Kenshin, Hiko raises Kenshin and teaches him swordsmanship. Though sometimes a harsh master he truly seems to care about his wayward apprentice and helps out Kenshin and his group when they return to Kyoto for their showdown with Shishio and his minions. He is one of the few people in the story that not only knows about Kenshin's past, but was actually part of it. Last edited by ManOfRust on Fri Apr 02, 2010 10:43 pm; edited 2 times in total |

Nominate
Nominating two supporting characters that both have more than a fair share of fan support despite their limited role to their respective series. They do both play a fairly major role on the regular mini show that ends most episodes, but it is clear that both of these characters are still very much supporting characters and are not apart of the main ensemble cast. Akira Kogami, Lucky Star pic Role: Comic Relief, Hostess What Makes Her A Great Supporting Character: Akira is the star of the Lucky Channel show that ends most Lucky Star episodes. Her character is most remembered for her tendency to switch between bubbly cute and violently aggressive without a moment's notice. Akira is always energetic, childish, and her unexpected mean side that is surprisingly raw voiced, violent and vulgar despite her very innocent appearance is perhaps what she is most known for. Lastly, her narcissistic and schizophrenic tendencies help solidify her very strong presence in the series despite her role as a supporting character. Minoru Shiraishi, Lucky Star pic Role: Comic Relief, Co-Host What Makes Him A Great Supporting Character: Shiraishi Minoru serves as Akira's co-host on the Lucky Channel. Starting as a shy and frightened host, by each episode he gains more confidence and eventually becomes very energetic and starts to overshadow Akira, which easily annoys her. He also has very limited role in a few of the other episodes as one of main ensemble‘s classmates. His personality is a perfect counter to the very erratic Akira, but time eventually reveals that even shy characters have a breaking point. Supporting Ami from Toradora |

We're going to have to be careful with who else gets nominated from Code Geass, as there are a lot of worthy options. While I would probably support a Euphie nomination, we also have to consider Kallen (I wouldn't quite put her at the "main character" level like Suzaku, Lelouch, and C.C.), Shirley, and Nunally at the very least, maybe also Millie, Kaname Ohgi, and Diethard. Between them, Euphie, and Cornelia, which three are the best competitors? I'd be willing to write up nominations for any of them (or second the votes for them), but perhaps some others can weigh in first on which 2-3 from this list are the most tournament-worthy.
Well, that was my space cadet moment for the day. . . and no, egoist, there's no need to vote further against a character so far into the negatives. |

You know, I personally only wanted to nominate one person from Code Geass. So I thought, "well, who made the most impact in his/her screen time?" and Cornelia immediately leapt to mind. There are so many amazing characters who help move the plot along, but Cornelia is such a tour-de-force that I thought, as a less-appreciated character, she deserved a nod...
I would argue against that. I think Kenshin and Kaoru are the main focus, while Yahiko and Sano are the support. Yes, Sano gets some arc-time dedicated to him, but...would you really call him a protagonist in, say, the way Lelouch and Suzaku are in Code Geass? |

It's true, however of all those supporting characters, I personally would vote for Euphie the most, even over Cornelia if it came to that. Either way, we should see more than one of them in here. |

It's a beautiful overcast Saturday morning... perfect for some write-ups.
Nominate Chourou Haré+Guu pic Role: Clueless victim to Guu What Makes Him A Great Supporting Character: Chourou is the elder of the village that Hare and Guu live in. While his screen time is a little bit more limited than a lot of the supporting characters, every time he is on the screen is outrageous fun. The most iconic scenario in the series is Guu stealing Chourou's most beloved thing in life (see picture for a hint). What ensues is both hilarious and an interesting study in human psychology. Shikamaru Naruto pic Roles: Buddy, Super Smart Guy What Makes Him A Great Supporting Character: Shikamaru is presented as lazy and unexcited about having to go anywhere. However, there is no one else you'd want on your team. His strategies are unrivaled and he works in an unselfish manner. He is realistic and knows when to fall back or give up--something that most of the characters lack, and a trait that endears him to the higher-ups, causing a quick promotion in the ranks. |

I was thinking about nominating Kekashi, but if one character is going to go up from Naruto then this is the one it probably should be. He was always my second-favorite of the students (behind only Hinata, but she doesn't have a strong enough presence for this tournament). Thus I am voting for here. Also for Chourou, as I agree that he is probably the best choice from that series. I am going to vote against on Don Kanoji, as while he is a fun character, he doesn't have enough screen time or impact on the series to be much of a competitor here. And now a couple of nominations before I throw up the next update: Myoga, Inuyasha pic Role: Retainer, Advisor, Comic Relief What Makes Him A Great Supporting Character: Arguably the most prominent character in the cast that isn't a core demon-hunting team member, this flea was a former servant of Inuyasha's father who falls to serving Inuyasha when he gets released from his long sleep. His appearances are often good for comic relief but he is also quite knowledgeable about demon-related matters and frequently instrumental to setting Inuyasha and crew in the right direction. Kikyo, Inuyasha pic Role: Love Interest, Adversary, Motivator What Makes Her A Great Supporting Character: While Myoga may be the series' most prominent supporting character, Kikyo is its most important. The tragic priestess does not appear enough to be a main character but is utterly intrinsic to the story; she is the one who pinned Inuyasha to a tree for 50 years when she though he had betrayed her love, and her death from injuries inflicted by Naraku is what allowed her soul to be reincarnated - along with the Shikon Jewel - in Kagome. Her later being brought back to a state of unlife by a demon creates the central love triangle involving her, Inuyasha, and Kagome, which results in considerable romantic tension and conflicting motives throughout the series. At various times throughout the series she conflicts with Inuyasha and Kagome, even trying to kill the former on many occasions, and seems to help the major antagonist Naraku (though her ultimate goal is actually to permanently destroy him), while at other times she reluctantly or surreptitiously cooperates with them. There are a few others I'd like to nominate - someone from Saikano and Now and Then, Here and There (Nabuca, maybe?) should be included, and I've been debating nominating Colonel from Akira - but I need to go out for the day soon so I have to cut this short for now. The daily update is now up on the OP, good through this post. We're up to 127 candidates (although one is a guaranteed cut due to LOTH having four candidates), including 95 with 2+ scores. Don't be shy about continuing to offer nominations, as I'd rather see a field of 200 pared down to 128 than miss very worthy participants, but do make sure they're candidates who could actually be competitive.

Nominating:
Ichiro Mihara Angelic Layer pic Roles: Mentor, Comic Relief What makes him a great supporting character: Icchan is the person who helps introduce Misaki to Angelic Layer and regular pops up to provide her with advice and encouragement. His silly antics hide a (benign) ulterior motive for encouraging the young heroine to participate in tournaments and face the reigning champion. Gouzaburou Seto My Bride is a Mermaid pic Roles: Yakuza Boss, Father-in-Law-to-be, Merman What makes him a great supporting character: A somewhat stereotypical over-protective father, in addition to hating the guy who, due to circumstances, became his daughters fiancee, Gouzaburou has underlings who will deliver on his death threats (until his wife or daughter stop them). He even goes so far as to move the entire clan to Nagasumi's hometown where they become the faculty of the school. His hot-tempered threats and attacks often leave protaganist Nagasumi frightened, but ultimately stronger for it. Ren Seto My Bride is a Mermaid pic Roles: Mother-in-Law-to-be, Mermaid What makes her a great supporting character: Ren is far more accepting of her daughters betrothal than her husband, and tends to be available to dispense various advice and magic potions to the teenage characters to help them with their problems. That is, when she isn't randomly hitting on her future son-in-law. Supporting: Chourou Hare+Guu Akira Kogami Lucky Star Minoru Shiraishi Lucky Star |
