i found this to be an entertaining manga. it has gore, nice action and laughable jokes. the storyline is also quite interesting. as for guys, there is a considerable dose of fanservice. yet, i never read anyone mentioning it. i wonder if i have such a warped taste. anyway, has anyone read this and what do you think of it?

i thought the art, was the only the only cool part of it. i stoped buying it after volume 1. the story seemed too average to keep me interested. and the fanservice was the only reason i continued to read to the end of volume 1.

Hmm, I bought the first volume a while ago and stopped after that. I'm sure I've seen worse titles and it was entertaining at times, but I got the feeling I had seen it all before (character gets involved in something he don't quite understand, but decides it's worth it to get the girl etc...). It's only four volumes though so I might continue it to the end sometime to see if it gets better.

i found volume 1 to be enjoyable and different. it goes in different path than the mainstream mangas such as bleach or naruto where the storyline revolves in the main character practice and gets stronger, defeated then practice and get even stronger, and defeated than practice to get even much stronger.
i've read up to volume 3 and i'd say it's improving. there are more fanservice, gore and actions which is what i look for in a manga. i also think that it has nice plot. there are cute, touching, even romantic moments which shounen mangas usually lack. so far, i have been enoying it.

I read the first volume and is one of the worst I've ever read. The main character is lame and it does nothing beyond average at best.

lmp, i'm not a sexist or anything. i just wonder if you are a woman?
and i found the main character to be interesting. to fight that hard for a woman he just met shows that he had a strong and sacrificing spirit. the part where his mere absolute determination transferred him to the world of tao to become the earth gladiator that has 1 in a million chances shows that he is very special.

all stories, save an incredible few, are cliche, and it is up to how well they are done to make it interesting.
I borrowed volume 1 of Tao, and found that it was not done very well. It just came off as being another stereotypical story and an excuse for excessive, pointless gore

hm.. by saying stereotypical do you mean that wot manga is very typical for a manga? or is there any other form of media in your mind? i haven't read many mangas btw so i can't really see if this manga is just another cliche or not. but if you are saying that the manga is a cliche of old literatures, then about most animes could be included as well.
the thing about cliche is that it could come in different variation depending on the author's talent or background culture so that it can come out somewhat different and still entertaining. i thought wot manga is so but i'm not sure anymore.

I mean all mediums, not just manga.
Take any fantasy book, for instance.
They are pretty much all the same basic story: unlikely person goes on grand quest, meets people and forms a group, usually some love interest, villians (who get killed in the end), etc.
I realize that I am making vast generalizations, but most fantasy stories are like this.
However, some are better than others.
why? I don't know, but I think that it pretty much comes down to the talent/skill of the person making it. Some people can do wonderful things with this basic plot, while others are just terrible.

hm.. probably you read too much which is a good thing. i also personally am not as interested to anime as before thanks to fansubs. fansubs might have a hidden side effect in which you watch too much animes, and you start to lose interest. but i just found it in my case btw.
