It's official: The judge get aroused seeing kayaks.

The fact that she was even charged at all is such an embarrassment to the Japanese legal system. Both stupid, misogynistic and archaic.

It is "evil blaming" pure and simple, pointing the finger at an eccentric artist for perceived societal woes just so a few grumpy old men can feel that they have "done something" for there society.

We were talking about this at work on Saturday, heh. I'm glad she had a partial victory, and while I would say the fact that she had to go to court or had any trouble at all is dumb, I think the same would happen if this were in the US. (Kind of like the situation with Blue Valentine and the ratings.)

I'm really glad she took a stand though, and it's cool that people were sticking up for her (and that it's known that Japanese commentators called it hypocritical; lest people try to say all of Japan is backwards).

Makes me wonder what Japan thinks of Georgia O'Keefe's artwork. Laughing

Remember what the Diet says: Horrific, deplorable sex acts are okay, as people don't see any uncensored genitals! That's what Japan is all about.

She's pretty used to getting in trouble with the law by now though, is she?

It's pretty absurd that "sexually arousing viewers" is being framed in such a negative way like this. It's like they are afraid of sexuality.

Rokudenashiko's lawyer outlines the judgment here. You can support her by buying her Manko-chan art work here.

This is why I detest modern art, it is just made for the sake of being controversial. Why would you do something like this? there is merit to it, it is just shocking for the sack of being chocking.

Utterly absurd. Obscenity statutes as a concept are ridiculous to begin with, but this is just on a whole new level.

Quite frankly, end the obcenity law, stop the law regarding visible genitalia in pornography and eroge, and stop the attacks on artistic freedom. And yes, several of the contents are horrid and require brain bleach. But there is a meaning to the term ''Creative Freedom''.

Also, while you're at it, teach Netherlands-style Sex Ed, instead of the pathetic excuse of Sex Ed you have over there. LGBT content and all. Also, regulate your sex industry, and provide protections for people working in the porn industry. And implementation of a ban on purity contracts. An implementation of a national age of consent, overthrowing all local laws. My choice would be at 15, which is described as the beginning of late teenagehood, but 16 is not a bad choice either. A Romeo and Juliet Law may be in order.

Rather than the pretense of media control as a response to rape and sexual abuse, how about actual rough laws being applied, the application of heavy, gender-neutral laws against rape, sexual abuse of any kind, sexual harassment, and spreading information regarding such laws to the public.

And, a bit less related, but still related to sexuality in Japan, is the family law, which should contemplate shared custody, childrens rights, parental rights, and marriage equality and adoption rights for same-sex couples, the introduction of LGBT topics at school, including addressing transgenderism and the intersex in legislation, etc. Also, full ban on discrimination based on biological sex, gender identity, sexual orientation and sexual and gender expression,

Sure, other topics, like racism, xenophobia, migrant rights, and poverty need equal attention, but on sexuality matters, this is the 12-step program program for Japan. And as things look, they will get there soon enough.

That festival was created to raise money for HIV infectees. At least it got a good cause.

As for this topic, I am bewildered. There's a lot more art related things to do out there and this person shouldn't really exposed it to the public. Even if it is done under the pretence of "freedom of expression", it isn't necessarily good to make into wide exposure. But, I guess people do like to do weird things and may tried numerous methods to gained infamy or popularities as much as possible.

Also, I really dislike how people would always spoke as if the entirety of people in Japan is involve in this or any other similar topic by using sentences such as "that's what Japan are all about" and anything related, acting as if they knew everyone in Japan is indeed involved. Or it is just a figure of speech? I will surely not be happy if someone said that all Malaysian like to blablabla just because a single malaysian is caught doing something. You can't blame an entire country to become a certain characteristic out of the action of a single person or a group of them. Not everyone is the same.
