That is really too bad, because I am actually a pretty big fan of that anime.

Here's the decay of this project over the course of the year:

"Frame Arms Girl Anime Gets Sequel."
animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-03-25/frame-arms-girl-anime-gets-sequel/.129501

"Frame Arms Girl Anime Sequel Project Revealed as Film."
animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-07-29/frame-arms-girl-anime-sequel-project-revealed-as-film/.134825

And now, "Frame Arms Girl Anime Film Revealed as Compilation Film with New Footage."

Kinda makes the production committee look like a bunch of amateurs.

Watching the trailer I am reminded a bit of the film titled Small Soldiers directed by Joe Dante that I saw years ago as a child (as well as the review of the movie a couple of years ago by Nostalgic Critic) This is the first I am learning of this franchise, and I am a bit curious (at least in terms of the anime show).

It seems misleading and cruel to the fans that the studio has been hyping it up all year as a sequel only to suddenly backtrack and reveal it as a compliation film. A compilation film is not a sequel in any way.

MAL initially had it listed as a TV sequel series, based on the first announcement. My guess is the producers thought they'd have enough funding for a sequel, but that turned out not to be the case. Should have played it safer with the press releases, because this looks bad now and it didn't have to.
