The movies are my favorite version of Kenshin, so I welcome this. Even if the original creator is a creep.

I can't believe we're getting a live action version of the Jinchuu Arc before we've properly seen it in animated form, but...here we are. The live-action movies were very well done, despite the limiting factor of a film runtime, and the adaptations to make the story feel at-home in the realm of live-action chanbara-style cinema were sensible, so I'm really looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

With how much material there is for Enishi, I feel like taking an entire movie just to do the "Remembrance Arc" interlude (which was around 2 volumes in the manga and served more as an interlude during the Jinchuu Arc) is...probably thematically nice, since that story would fit well into a movie's runtime, but overall kind of questionable. I seem to recall Watsuki saying in some old interviews that if he had to do it all over again, he'd cut out the side-antagonists from the arc and just focus squarely on Enishi, and given his propensity to "condense" his work in revisioning (like that "re-imagined" version of the first couple story arcs of the manga), that's probably exactly what the films are going to do.

Me, I'd just like to see the whole Rurouni Kenshin series get re-done with the kind of care something like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood got. Maybe like...not quite as slavish an adaptation, but something nice. Something with a budget. I loved the original series, but stick mainly to the manga nowdays, because the anime's visuals feel like they haven't aged well.

This is interesting news.

Though i was rather hoping for a Reflection capstone to the Live Action set of movies.

I honestly can't believe this after all the scandals (both in relation to Emi Takei and Watsuki). I'm just happy that Enishi will finally be adapted again after his so-so treatment in Reflections.

I'll not be watching it unless Watsuki does not get one. Single. Yen. Period.

Same unfortunately it looks like many people will support it and continue to show that Watsuki’s crimes don’t matter.

Watsuki should be rotting in a cell, not still being allowed to publish a manga in Jump. He had so much kiddie porn the police thought he intended to distribute. That's disgusting.

The only way I MIGHT consider watching these is if his name is completely wiped from credit and he receives NOTHING from them. Other than that, I will never watch these and I sincerely hope no one licenses them.

Get caught with drugs and Japan erases you from existence. Get caught with child porn and you get a two movie deal.

Kaoru is one of my least favorite anime female character along w/ Kagome and Orihime, hence why I never really finished watching the series, but there were some parts of the story I enjoyed as well as some characters. I really liked the Kenshin back story, so it's cool they'll be making a live action of that part of the story.

How many of us actually still watch or have a copy of the movie Rosemary's Baby?
It was directed by a guy who committed statutory rape and he's still directing.

Or take R. Kelly, he still makes money and fans still love him for some reason Mad Mad

Really surprised to see them doing these movies after the scandals with Watsuki, even if I'm happy to see the rest of Kenshin's story adapted.

Japan is very respectful about creators and their ownership over their works. There is absolutely no way a company would make a work based on a manga and not give them the credit they deserve.

The Hokkaido tankobon releases did amazing well. They ranked in the top 3 releases for the month if I recall correctly. The fandom has spoken and supports Watuski after the incident, so there's no reason for companies not to do so as well if that's the fandom's choice.

Viz, however, seems to be doing the opposite. They are taking that power away from the fandom and deciding for themselves that western fans do not deserve a chance to support Watsuki and refuse to continue the official English translation. An interesting example of how differently American and Japanese companies operate, I guess.
