Thank god it's going back to what initially attracted people. Gore and mindf*ckery. I could not stand to watch that last moe season.

One of my favorite anime – I have all the Manga – visual novels and anime that I can get on Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. I hope they release the next arc in visual novel on stream soon. New arc in anime for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni my day could not get any better than this. July hurry up and come soon.

This... the art doesn’t really look better than the original, which was basically the only reason to remake Higurashi.

Yeah, the rushed ass adaptation it got definitely wasn't reason enough, the animation was the real problem... Rolling Eyes

Huh, looks like they really wanted the look of the PS2 sprites. Interesting.

Kenji Kawai sounds like he never left producing music for Higurashi - can't wait to see how Passione pulls this one off! I was about to re-watch the original DEEN adaptation, but we'll wait and just watch this to see how it compares Razz

I am hoping 24 eps for only the question arcs; the akb adaptation was pretty good pacing wiseand what I watched adapts well to that pacing.

For the sheer amount of information and proper mystery storytelling in the original visual novel, unless you are going for something completely different and transforming it in a psychological thriller of some sort and omitting most of all of the other elements instead (like Deen did, and I prefer to treat it as an alternative interpretation altogether if anything), I think, veeeeery pragmatically, 6-8 episodes per arc (except for maybe Himatsubushi for being shorter) would kinda suffice, if they cut every single corner possible very well and fit every relevant information neatly (the previous adaptation doesn't even have 30% of the content of the actual thing, just the very most basic elements coupled with superb atmosphere and sound editing/OST), if this were to be a 26 episodes proper adaptation of the question arcs. I would likely go for:

Onikakushi (15 hours long of raw text): 6
Watanagashi (20 hours long of raw text): 8
Tatarigoroshi (18 hours long of raw text): 7
Himatsubushi (11 hours long of raw text): 5

And that's considering quite a few sacrifices are being made.
For a proper and adequately slow burner pacing and paranoia inducing experience like the original VN, each arc could easily be a 8-12 episode cour worth of content on their own (heck, 13 episodes for the 25 hours long VN of Danganronpa was quite the rushed mess, and that's also a mystery visual novel with many clues, proper build up, engaging storytelling and filled with characterization.... all elements which were overall pretty butchered all things considered).

Like, even 30-ish episodes long adaptation (I'm including the double length and the 50 minutes one episodes) for Fate Stay Night UBW (30-ish hours long arc of the VN) was lacking some essential monologues for Shirou and that's as good as you can get with VN adaptations (there were some extra stuff here in there btw, just not to leave them unmentioned).

Oh yeah, another funny thing, Steins;Gate (roughly 43 hours of text) similarly to the first Higurashi adaptation omitted nearly every single actual scientific element (+ an two entire character arcs and each individual alternative ending, the latter being much understandable) from it, which the visual novel was most famous for, and it also ended up working out well as yet another alternative 2-cour thriller product, so but I don't want any more of that for Higurashi, the first adaptation was more than sufficient in that regard in its own terms.

PS:
If you want to compare by number of words and see your own reading speed, I'll make an example with the just mentioned Steins;Gate (309.620 words). You can apply to all of the others as the time length was taken with the standard settings for their auto-text (won't be perfectly precise since there's also a lot of voiced dialogue to be considered).

After seeing the trailer multiple times, the new designs have grown on me and I’m so glad to hear all the cast members are reprising their roles.

This is looking like a remake and I’m both terrified and excited beyond belief. Higurashi is one of my all time favorite anime and I understand that the anime wasn’t the best of adaptations from a VN, but on its own merits, I loved the anime to bits. If this project turns out to be a more faithful recreation of Higurashi (with better animation and designs), I’ll be looking forward to this in a level that I have not ever felt before.

Also, it’s coming out in just a little over three months?! Oh jeez, my heart won’t be prepared in time for July. This and Re:Zero 2 in the same season is going to be absolutely bonkers. Shocked
