For those who are disappointed that this is an April Fool's thing, allow me to point you in the direction of Wanko to Kurasou. It's essentially a dog version of NekoPara, but with significantly more story, drama, and worldbuilding. It's kind of old, but looks pretty good.

The husky being the cool quiet type lets me know that these people have never had a husky.

Yep - if anything, huskies are clearly the destroyers of homes, let alone them being quiet - considering they have a really high energy drive which is dangerous for anything nearby without giving them enough outlet (which is a given - they are supposed to be sled dogs after all).

More like stereotypes about the people from northern areas leaking in.

Considering that they'll be wrapping up NekoPara soon and that they did eventually release something for their previous April Fool's joke, I think there's a high chance this will be a real thing.

Those "popular" dog breeds by way of AKC stats:
Chihuahua-37
Pembroke Welsh Corgi-11
Pomeranian-24
Shiba-42
Siberian Husky-19
Standard Poodle-5
a. Note that with AKC stats, they classify the 3 types of Poodles as just "Poodles".

I supported the 2017 Nekopara KS. I'd gladly support another Kickstarter for Inupara.

Those stats represent the US though, and it's a quite different case with Japan in terms of popularity - unlike the US where the top usually dominated by labs or shepherds ("big dogs for a big house", basically), it's more representable with small breeds due to housing conditions and very small apartments in a high-density urban area - so toy poodles, chihuahua and poms are way higher on the rating of popularity (1, 2 and 6 respectably) - and Shiba is, well, a Japanese branded breed, being on 4th place.

probably it's like the dog equivalent of a tsundere, calm and quiet when it does not know you, then it becomes a natural disaster of destruction and enthusiasm as it gets to know you. now that's a character arc.

Except true huskies are always 100% destructive force, no matter they know you or not. Think comedy exagerrated genki type, something close to Yui from Angel Beats or Haruka from Little Busters.

a couple months down the track, i can totally see them going 'hey, remember that april fools joke about Inupara? Well, we're making it into a real game'.

Also as a dog lover, this would have a more immediate appeal to me. I'm meh on the Husky and Chihuahua but the others are top notch.
