Too much expository dialogue is a common problem for most isekai. At least they don’t do committee meetings like in Slime

It's a known quantity that Rezero arcs tend to start on the slow side and need to do abit of table setting before they get going - and volume 15, which this episode covers in full, is very much a setup volume, so definitely don't expect an explosive start, but also don't consider the first episode to be a tone-setter, it's not.
When I read it I felt it needed to be adapted in one sitting, 2 tops - probably a double episode with cut content - because otherwise it'd be too slow a start. I'm glad they sprung for the 90 minutes experience that allowed them to not cut to much out while still "blasting" through it in one go, so we can get to the meat of the arc faster.

I think it's a "problem" for most light novel adaptions, which isekai is largely confined to. That said, in this case, anything that feels like it should be shown instead of told to the audience has a reason it cannot be shown yet. I actually went back to read this part of the arc again after finishing it because a few things said intrigued me. Unlike season 1, where a lot of important worldbuilding and foreshadowing was removed for time, the worldbuilding and foreshadowing here is explicitely for use in this one arc, meaning it'll all be relevant soon. Setting audience expectations before showing things outright is an important part of this arc's narrative structure, and there is very little time for the characters to sit down and pass the time talking once the gears start turning. Arc 5 is very much the most action-packed arc. I thought I was reading a shounen for a while, at least, until the big twist turned that notion on its head.
That's all I'll say. I hope people enjoy the arc. It's hard for me to judge my favorites, but this one is definitely memorable from start to finish.
