I am curious as to the target demo for this show. I recall a similar show whose first season aired around the same time, Didn't I Say Make My Abilities Average In My Next Life, added some stuff that wasn't in the source material - and omitted some things that were - in an attempt to lure more male viewers. It was rather criticized at the time, plus it also didn't work, as it didn't get the second season that this show, which was a more straightforward adaptation, did. It is similar to some of the successful seinen shows in Japan, but I wonder what the demo profile in other regions looks like. Or maybe it got a second season based on its success with the Japan seinen crowd alone. If that is the case, Didn't I Say Make My Abilities Average In My Next Life sacrificed the Japanese seinen audience in order to try to get shonen and overseas streaming viewers, only to fail. While I don't believe that TV adaptations should be captives to their source material - Trigun for example was an anime classic precisely because it mostly ignored a manga that was much darker and had less action - probably a lesson in that somewhere.
