I hope Discotek or Animeigo can rescue license this series for the US and Canada market. Hell I'd be fine with Sentai having it again.

I would rather have the former two since they're probably the only ones who could get the Manga UK dubs back.

As for Sentai, worst thing is if they still have it that they could pull a Wings of Honneamise and bring over import copies.

^Same feelings here. I think Animeigo only has 1 4K release and it's not even out yet (Macross). They both use/are Media OCD and they make some of the best disks i've seen.

The first two Patlabor movies (especially the second) are some of the best anime films ever made, IMO.

Ah, if only I had a 4K player and 4K TV.

Nice to see for those who want it. I wonder why they aren't doing the 3rd?

Personally I don't think I'll be upgrading my BDs, but it's definitely nice if this can come over so that they're easily available again Smile

I mean, I get it. Unless you're sitting really close to your TV (or other display) it's typically really hard to even differentiate between 4k and 1080p, unless you've got some wonky settings screwing up the upscaling.

Nothing but emphatic agreement here. That one investigation montage in the first movie is one of my favorite scenes in any medium, not just animation. Really incredible work. So I'm especially excited to see some of those big background paintings of the city in 4K -- they already look gorgeous in the existing versions, but the more detail, the better.

If you haven't already, I'd recommend you pickup a copy of Anime Architecture. It includes backgrounds from Patlabor 1 & 2. You can find a review of it here:

Riekeles Gallery has some jaw dropping prints available as well.

Oh, wow, I didn't know that book was a thing. Thank you so much for telling me about it! It'll definitely be in my next big book order -- I can't wait to dig through it.
