As a requirement of his new employment he must legally change his name to Doug Megatron.

I saw this news this morning, and thought to myself "Hmm, so the guy that has piloted Nintendo of America and left, right as its entered what has probably been Nintendo's stingiest era, now moves to Hasbro, which has pretty much spent the last couple years dismantling any goodwill Wizards of the Coast fans had for D&D/Magic as a hobby."
Any of ya'll remember back 15 years ago when the 3DS nearly flopped, and they came up with the Early Adopter/Apology Program? Now they're charging for performance upgrades? I don't see this making the situation any more palatable, it just makes me internally say "Ah, yeah, that reads - golden parachute."
Is it an unfair take? I know Nintendo's main Japan office is likely more culpable than its international ones, but it feels like we're well beyond the halcyon days of Stranger Things kicking off a Critical Role binge. Instead of everyone excited for an updated Core book or Monster Manual, we're all dreading what sort of Ai-fuelled hell-chimera they're going to try and shove out as a subscription service.
I don't read the headline and see this as a positive, given the tone coming out of both of the associated companies as of late. I mainly just remember the guy showing up at Game Awards and giving some blank-faced statement in place of the actual developers that Nintendo has locked in some dark nondescript closet somewhere.

I saw that award and was genuinely surprised that he was the one who accepted it. I know it was one of the smaller awards during the pre-show part, but it came off like Nintendo saying they couldn't be bothered to care.

A. Nintendo does not care about the game awards.
B. NOA has no power anymore to be frank.
C. Board of Directors are mostly investor and advice not running the company.

It was just the Game Awards, of course they don't care. They don't even bother to show their games at them anymore which says more about the Awards than it does Nintendo.
A for Bowser, amusing he moves to Hasbro. Happens with a lot of former executives who decide to get out of decision making but still want something to do. Getting out of the business mindset is tough

To be fair they didn’t have to do that but they wanted to reward early adopters while also boosting the 3DS flagging sales.
It also still beg the question why the 3DS never saw anymore GBA games released on the platform.

I admit I had a laugh reading your post. Although I can accept other villain's last name beside Megatron.
Anyway, congrats to Doug going from Nintendo to Hasbro.

Considering how many of their games are now being made with American audiences in mind compared to a Japanaese audience, including games like Fire Emblem which are now made with the western market in mind from the start so they don't have to censor a ton of 'icky' content like they used to pre-Three Houses, this seems easily proven false. They literally renamed characters in Mario in Japan to better align with their English names. And considering the Mario movies are being done by American animation studios and focuses on the western audience it's pretty clear NoA has plenty of power and influence now than they ever did before.
As for this news, Transformers already got really stingy since the pandemic and have been increasing the price of figures every year since then. Hasbro recently moved their HQ to Boston from Rhode Island so that's already going to cause an increase in prices. I saw jokes about $50 Deluxes but that could very well be coming. Not that Hasbro needs someone new to increase their greed but if Hasbro starts to go like the way Nintendo has in recent years then I guess it'll be better to stick to third-party Transformer figures.

It would be nice if this guy would tell Hasbro to stop messing with D&D and trying to squeeze every last cent out of fans. However, he's just probably there to collect a check and rubber stamp for CEO Chris Cocks and his Ai hallucinations.
