I wouldn't be surprised if the issues of immigration, particularly in the USA, influenced the people to make this game. Fiction is often influenced by real-world events, people, stories, concepts, etc.

Real shame about the AI gen. I would have wanted to support this if not for that.

I doubt USA politics influenced this much. Japan is much more strict and proactive about immigration control than the US is especially in recent years as more and more Japanese people are speaking out about it including famous Japanese creators and celebrities. With manga series like Drama Queen and now games like this it seems evident Japan has reached it's own boil-over point on the topic and have things to say as it becomes more of a public talking point especially after the recent snap election in Japan. That being said it sounds less Paper Please (which was just finding out who had a fake or inconsistent passport) and this is more of a discussion/judgement based or, dare I say, Among Us, of finding out which alien is actively trying to sabotage Earth and which have beneficial skills to help it.

"We're gonna make an immigration enforcement game with AI!"

Everyone disliked that. Now admittedly stuff like the subject matter isn't necessarily a deal breaker; Lucas Pope did that in Papers, Please to brilliant effect but that's because it was to emphasize the brutal setting and make it really hard to make the morally right decision. Still, current context for this (including catering to the slop machine) does not fill me with confidence

I guess I'm not 'everyone' then because this looks kind of interesting and fun.

This game looks nothing like Papers Please outside a general "immigration officer" theme.

I also wonder what you mean by "missing the point"...

The Mainichi Shimbun paper conducted a national poll this past weekend after Japan's lower-house snap election. 72% said measures to lower prices should be the policy that the Takaichi cabinet prioritizes. The "foreigner issue" option ranked so low that it fell in the "Other" category, which altogether totaled 7%.
