Copy and pasting what I posted elsewhere: I can't pretend to know everything Hatta-san did exactly but as the President and CEO, I understand that his leadership was an extremely important role in shaping the studio into being what it is. I'll be eternally grateful for the dozens of wonderful anime he helped create - the countless dreams he made real. I've seen thousands of anime in my life and most of my favorites are still, to this day, made by Kyoto Animation. I hope Hatta-san can rest in peace now. I pray that his dreams will live on as Kyoto Animation pushes forward with Shinichiro at the helm. Furthermore, I can't imagine how hard it was for him after the arson. But he continued to lead Kyoto Animation through such difficult time. Kyoani continues now because of that leadership and strength. May he rest in peace. |

This is definitely sad news. Hideaki Hatta knew how to properly run a studio and I think others should follow his lead.

Kyoto Animation is essenntially a model studio for working conditions and treating workers with decency. This man (and his wife) most likely had a role in this. And the results show in the beautiful, if less frequent, output of the studio.
May he rest in peace. I'm sure his workers are in mourning. |

May he rest in peace, and may his family and friends endure yet another tragic experience...
It's just so sad and so unfair. From everything I read and heard, KyoAni is a model studio that preserved most work practices, wages and whatnot despite pressures to lower standards that much of the competition did. I hope Hatta-san's legacy stays. |

I just heard about the passing on social media before this ANN article was published. My condolences goes out to his surviving families, RIP!!!

Their output was fairly quick prior to the arson. We were getting 1 high-quality anime per year until 2012 which changed to 2-3 anime per year. Understandably, the arson is what changed everything. |

He and his wife founded their studio the same year Ghibli was founded, and I honestly have more respect for what the Hattas accomplished with theirs.

Fair enough. I'm just used to anime studios with somewhat higher pacing... at the detriment of both quality of output and the well-being of workers. |
