Considering the hefty amounts of dialogue stemming from the fact that Kojima originally wanted to go into movie-making, I'm honestly surprised this didn't happen sooner. It'd be crazy if they got Kurt Russell to play Big Boss, because there's no way he can play Snake in this day and age.

I'll believe it when it's actually done.

I remember they tried this a few years ago, and got as far as casting Oscar Issac as Snake before everything went south. Still, given how many previously unreleasable projects have crossed the finish line, it might have a chance.

Then again, Sony has also been sitting on Robotech for 20 years and has never gotten close to casting, let alone filming.

Kojima already got his choice for Solid Snake to play not Solid Snake in Death Stranding, I think we can pack this up

This time, for sure...

I'm apprehensive as to them pulling this off. Especially nowadays.

It should be an obvious thing to pull off, but somehow they always screw it up as a combination of not wanting to give it adequate budget, and/or Hollywood writers feeling the need to add unnecessary original innovations and pet project ideas in there that have nothing to do with best adapting the material to a convenient movie run-time and all to do with making the story "yours" and "new" alongside paying your friends to add their additions to the recipe at the cost of the actual content.

See the recent 'Return to Silent Hill' as an example of what not to do. An example of going out of your way to screw up what is exceedingly simple.

I remember when Jordan Vogt-Roberts was set to direct with Oscar Isaac as Solid Snake

AND then nothing happened. I will believe it when I see it

It's kind of hard to gauge how it'll go since they've only done three movies together, but all three movies were well-received and one of those was a made-for-TV Kim Possible movie which was kind of an uphill battle to be watchable just as it was. Could work out well, could not, but I don't see any reason to immediately write off the possibility that it comes out decent.

We'll see how this goes. I find that people kind of over complicate how hard MGS would be to adapt. They're basically just Futaro Yamada stories but using black ops instead of ninjas.

So, they do know MGS is like the third game in the actual Metal Gear series, right?

Fourth if you count Snake's Revenge, which nobody does?

Bigger name, although apparently, before it went sideways, the Roberts script was meant to be a combination of Metal Gear 2 and MGS1 with Big Boss as the main villain.

Forgive me, but that sounds much like it should have remained on the sideway.

I would honestly say it's closer to the Akira situation. Sony never seemed particularly interested in Robotech, it legit sounds like it was mostly Harmony Gold pushing for it super hard and Sony would put in a half-assed effort before giving up. Once all the rights stuff started to clear up, it made the idea even more unattractive because like...why not just make a Macross movie? And not a thing based on a nostalgic property from 30 years ago that these days is mostly known for the owners being insane.

Akira, on the other hand, had a bunch of legitimate attempts to make it that all fizzled out because no one could figure out how to make it work.

I take things that will not happen for 100$. The budget needs alone makes a film a near-impossible gamble.
