Back in the days of FLCL, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop there was just alot of great anime being produced. Then it just seemed to stop and instead we got shows like Bleach, the occasional decent movie. It seems like things might finally be picking up again. The Eva movies, Summer Wars, Brotherhood, Badlands Rumble, Redline, Princess Jellyfish, CROSS GAME! What do yall think, are we seing another period of classic titles being produced.

1997, 1998, 2000. 3 titles worth watching for 3 years you call "golden age"?
Maybe I should write a post for threads like that and just copy and paste it?
Shortly: the myth of "golden age" is created by several factors
-"Time filter" that stopped most of the crap from past years
-Limited availability of anime- 10 years ago when Net was slower VHS fansub still existed even fansub groups used to think what to pick up. Just good (or better than average) titles had a chance to be known
-Selective memory and nostalgia
Now about the topic: The classical doesn't mean "the best". "Dragon Ball", "Sailor Moon", even "Galaxy Express" have lots of disadvantages, and can't honestly be called "the best", but they are "classic"- recognisable and memorable from different reasons.
we will have a chance to review current seasons after years. Who knows how will the fate of the animation go? Maybe next person who will revolutionise it is now starting to draw first picture? Maybe some shows a bit forgotten now will be given a second chance?

Paranoia Agent, Planetes, Serial Experiment Lain, Berserk, HunterXHunter...I could have gone on, and yeah there was plenty before then too, Bubblegum Crisis. There was just more quality animes being produced back then.
Are you suggesting that somehow up until now we've somehow been overlooking all the decent anime of the past decade?
Fansubs are still going strong, infact are probably the strongest they've ever been.
Nah the slump was very real but I'm just happy the industry seems to be getting back on track.

What you want to prove by giving random titles from 80s-200x? I can give you equal amount of anime from last decade or 70s as well that I enjoyed more than every of this.
Yes, I suggest to think rationally, instead of looking through pink glasses.
You completely missed the point about fansubs: years ago technical problems forced groups to selection. Now pretty everything is subbed (except Queen Millennia series, nah!), so the watcher have to do this selection on his own.

Do you know what else came out in the same years as Trigun, Bebop and FLCL? Maze, Cyberteam in Akihabara, and Pilot Candidate. There was no Golden Age, there was just a handful of good, top tier stuff and selective memory like EireformContinent talked about.
And how can say with a straight face that good stuff just stopped? You seem to have a memory hole for around 2006-2008 where we got Death Note, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Code Geass, Haruhi Suzumiya, Black Lagoon, Paprika, Nodame Cantabile, TTGL, 5 cm/s, Darker than Black, Moribito, Time of Eve, Toradora, and Spice and Wolf JUST TO NAME A FEW.
Oh, wait, my bad. I seemed to have just picked off the top tier like you did. Whoops. Although, while I haven't done extensive research, I have to assume that that three year span is one of, if not THE best anime has seen because there was a lot of great to really good stuff.

really what would you consider decent from the past decade?
I have probably 300 or so gigs of shows from the past decade I've tried to watch and found horrible, many of them highly rated on anidb too.
You've done nothing to prove the anime industry was in a slump.

Sorry, but no.
When crap like Infinite Stratos is getting the brunt of attention these days, we aren't in some "anime golden age."
In fact, it's more like anime is dying. A slow, agonizing and painful death at that.

I've got 3 bookcases of DVDs and toons of manga:roll:
Tip for newbie: Don't admit it on this forum. You will be eaten alive.
Tip 2: Don't rely anidb or any rating. Since people are tought how to write and read we have something called "reviews" that can mention weak and good points, describe the target and help to decide whatever you are interested or not.
Tip 3: Use proper English. Your posts are short, but trying to read.
You still cry that YOU didn't like the anime you have seen. You just say they are bad, but not mention why? They just didn't suit your taste (I can tell you a secret: it happens) or you can name their mistakes? "That's bad" isn't considered as an explanation.

I believe there is just as much "good anime" being released now as there was back in this "Golden age".
More anime is being released now then ever before in Japan, but we're in a down economy so channels can't afford to get as much anime on TV. That and dubbing companies are going belly up, like remember ADV? They're gone.
Let me list good anime within the decade (2001-now):
Good anime is all about what you're into. There really is more variety in each Genre then there use to be. When a lot of people think of the good anime from back in the 90s they think, cowboy bebop, trigun, escaflowne, outlawstar, etc
Higurashi is an excellent series! Nice and Dark.
Gurren-Lagann is one of the most excellent Anime's I have ever seen. and its rating on this website shows it!
Welcome to the Nhk is an example of a series, that is different from most anime series. It takes a serious tone, on one guys road to not being a Hikikemori and a NEET anymore.
Full Moon Wo Sagashite is a series from earlier in the 00's about a girl with throat cancer who is visited by shinigami. Some how she is able to see them, and then she convinces them to let her be a singer for her last year alive.
An anime I'm not a fond of, but is popular amongest otaku watchers is Azumanga Daioh.
Now I'm noticing more ecchi today than there was back in the 00's. This specific genre is commonly hated, and there isn't many ecchi's reaching the Top 500 in terms of rating on this site. However an Ecchi that stands out a little is the Zero No Tsukaima series. Don't ever mention the "3rd season" though. Some people claim it doesn't exist. Kind of like how there is "one" matrix movie.
Then lastly I can list a few really popular, drama related series:
Kanon, Air are two that I have seen, The most popular out of them is the Clannad series. Clannad and Clannad After Story.
If you want something more modern, I've heard Angel Beats is starting to create quite the fanbase. A friend of a mine who is a hardcore Otaku even told me that Angel Beats replaced Kanon as his favorite overall series. He's someone who has created a relatively complex anime rating scale.

Ok, wow, I just read this dude's other posts. What the hell was wrong with me, taking this thread, and the dude, seriously? =_= Wish I had some...summoning stone or something. Call Tony to my bidding. Cause I can see this thread getting so locked from like a mile away. That...and this really weird deja vu feeling. Like I posted in a thread JUST LIKE THIS a few weeks ago... *rumbles through the forum*

see you at least know how to make an argument by listing some animes you enjoyed, I'll check out that full moon, but I Hated Gurren Lagen. Chars didn't seem to have much depth and universe was a bit too rediculous

If your idea of an ideal argument is two dudes listing crap they like, then going off on their lists....oooooh boy....
Pretty ironic, seeing as Aoi at least went in-depth regarding the shows you listed. You? ...Pretty much nothing.
Like I "hinted" in my other post, unless you edit your posts, primarily your first one, to more resemble Aoi's, like, say why you liked the stuff you like and why you hated the crap you hated, this thread is gonna get Zeus'd, dude... :/ And something like "I hate the voice acting" or "I don't like giant robots" won't terribly suffice.
If anything, it'll make me question your sanity... ...Why would you watch a giant robot show if you hate giant robots?

Most of these were series I have seen, however they are very popular too.--and that is the reason why I saw them.
I carefully listed popular series under different genre's within the decade. There is no completely unbiased list.
