Hi!
I would like to get some tips of series that are kind of like Love Hina, romantic and maybe a little humour.. Which ones are your favourites? |

I like Ai Yori Aoshi. Its another harem anime, but it has a little different spin in that the two main characters are together from the first 2 episodes. It focuses more of development in a relationship, not development to a relationship. It also has its share of fanservice and humor too.

I'd say this is a case where the older series still outdo the newer ones. My suggestion is to check out the Tenchi Muyo! & Ah! My Goddess OVAs. Urusei Yatsura & Maison Ikkoku might be good bets, as well, if you're not prejudice towards older-looking anime.

Fushigi Yuugi is great. But although it is a harem, it's not really like Love Hina.
Fushigi Yuugi has a lot more action and drama. It's sort of like, Tenchi meets X (TV), only a girl is the main character, and all of her protectors are guys. A lot of fickle romances and some occassional comedy are a good balance to the series. But yeah, it's more of an action-based show with very large amounts of melodrama in between. If you want something that is more like Love Hina though, I can only recommend Tenchi for now because I haven't seen any of the other ones mentioned yet, but Tenchi's pretty good. Most people who are anime fans have at least seen some of it. It's kind of like one of those titles you just can't miss. Anyway, welcome to the forum! |

While I haven't seen it all and the parts I did see where quite a while ago, I would have to say Tenchi only compares to Love Hina in the slapstick/physical humor. I remember everyone was after Tenchi, but I do not recall Tenchi ever showing interest in one peculiar female character, he just tried to keep everyone happy.. a peace-keeper, if you will. If you're looking for a real romance, I wouldn't recommend Tenchi.
However, for Maison Ikkoku, I haven't personally read any of it yet, but I would recommend reading this thread about it. The Similarities Between Love Hina & Maison Ikkoku |

If you like the comedy of Love Hina then Tenchi is the way to go. But if you are looking for something that has the romance Ai Yori Aoshi is probablly your best bet.

I dunno... although I saw and fell in love with KOR first, Maison Ikkoku just blew it out of the water for me. I think it's because KOR never really moves forward till the very end, and with MI, it was always changing with life going on and moving forward.
In a sense, KOR might be considered a little more juvenile in comparison. Even so, I'd still recommend it. |

Fruits Basket is very good. Its real funny has a good amount of action and romance in it. A very good series.

I cry because you have put Fruits Basket in the same category as Love Hina. |

How about A.I. Love You?
By the same author as Love Hina, Ken Akamatsu. |

You have officially created the quote of the month. A commemorative plaque and some sort of gift basket will be sent to your place of residence shortly. Seriously though, I agree that both shows are...very different. "Adorable supernatural slice-of-life" and "ho-hum generic harem" are not congruent terms, after all. |

Indeed. The intended demographic is entirely different as well, I'd say. While Fruits Basket and Love Hina certainly do have comedy and romance in them, the stylings are so radically different that they really shouldn't be compared. Although Fruits Basket does come highly recommended as well, you will be in for a big disappointment if you set expectations that it's going to be like Love Hina in any kind of way.

Although I have not heard anything about it, I'm sure Negima should be on it's way to being animated at some point. It's another Akamatsu title that looks to have some of the same comedy/fan service elements as Love Hina.
As far as romantic comedy, one that has not been mentioned yet is Ranma 1/2. You may want to try that, though by now it may look a bit dated. |

Ranma's too silly to be considered "romantic," really. I watched all 161 episodes, and it was more martial arts slapstick than romance. Sure, there were a few episodes that were strictly romance, though I can't really remember any, and there were subtle gestures between the charcaters that implied romance. But the show itself never really had any real moments of the "hug me, kiss me, love me" kind of romance. If you're looking for more comedy rather than romance though, Ranma's the way to go (if you have that much patience, that is.)
