I do hope this is the right place....

Today, I checked rightstuf and the 3rd volume of Gankutsuou went from 0 remaining to 179 (if only it was like that BEFORE I made my purchase of the rest of the volumes 3 days prior), so I was wondering if I could change my order to add the said volume. I know righstuf says you can change orders, but I assume that's more for removing stuff, not adding more. Also, what if the order you want to change has already shipped? Admittedly I don't know if mine has yet...So really, does anyone know if I can do it?

If the order's already been packed (not nessecarily shipped, but boxed up), you're out of luck for any changes. If not, there's a good chance you can add the DVD, but be aware that if they do, you'll go to the 'back of the line' as far as processing orders go. Might wanna make sure nothing else you got has sold out/is about to sell out first, or you could lose it.

If you do try, make sure to call them, not just email- it can take a day or two for an email request to be handled, depending on how busy they are.

Well, that's no good. I have no idea what the status of my order could be...they haven't updated the "where's my stuff?" since I ordered it. And the fourth volume only has 18 left. But I suppose as long as 18 more people don't rush to it, I should be fine. I'd hate to go through all this trouble just to be put right back in the same spot I started in. But whatever, I'll gamble. Thanks for the help and I think I'll be dropping them a line soon.

edit:

Just called and my order's already packed and ready to be shipped, so I can't make a change. I suppose I could order it alone, but I'd rather not spend money on shipping. None too happy about the whole 0-179 thing. Then again, had I more patience...bah.

While I understand that you don't want to pay for shipping (I too, have been spoiled about that) you may want to consider if;

the sale price + shipping = STILL cheaper than picking it up elsewhere

Because I also had the same thing happen to me, only with another series.. and so I ordered it separately with the shipping. Then I tried to combine them, only to find that it'd cancel the holds I have on the other discs, so they/I just left it alone. It's still a good price, as is. (This *was* one of the $5 series, however, so $8 is still good.. don't know the price for yours..)

Yeah, I ended up biting the bullet. For some reason I thought that shipping would be more expensive (it was $6-8 when I bought Haibane Renmei, but then, that was 4 DVDs). However, it was only $3, which made it plenty cheaper than other places. So, aside from the wait, I suppose nothing too grievous lost. Only $3 more.

I had a similar problem.

I placed an order that was large enough that it qualified for free shipping. Then remembering I wanted another title, I placed a new order about an hour later.

The second order was small so it cost me for shipping. Since it is all done online, and I believe your credit card is charged at the time of order, I didn't think there was a way I could get them to put the orders together. Well, they shipped the two orders in the same box. So in the end I didn't get free shipping, I had paid for it.

It was nice that they “saw” two orders going to the same place and shipped them in one box, but wouldn't you refund the shipping cost of the second order if you caught something like that? Don't they call that good customer service somewhere?

So, let us know if your two orders wind up in one box when you get it.

edit: Just for the record, I still buy from them. You can't let one bad time spoil everything.

Your credit card is absolutely NOT charged when you place an order. That's illegal. Your credit card isn't charged until your item(s) ship.

Well, I don't see where there is a law on this that makes it illegal. Perhaps some states have laws like this, but there are many web sites that are upfront about charging your card when the order is PLACED. I think the credit card issuers are the ones that regulate this issue the most. I see now that TRSI policy is (bold text is my addition):

Please note that it is our policy that credit card payments for merchandise will not be billed to your card until your merchandise is ready to ship.

As I mentioned before, I still shop with TRSI and will continue to place orders with them over other merchants (in most cases).

It is common for smaller companies to charge when order is placed and is how eBay's "buy it now" works. I have twice (once for the OOP Kodocha 9 and once for the OOP Cat Soup) recently used eBay and amazon marketplace for items that were "in stock." After being charged I was informed by the third party that the item was actually not in stock and that it was an inventory mistake and in both instances I had to contact the vendor a month after I ordered before I got my refund.

Back in January of 2007 I dropped $410 for my lettered edition of George R R Martin's book a Feast for Crows which still hasn't shipped. I think the first book in the series took close to three years between when I ordered it and when it arrived. Three years of interest for $400 actually does add up, but these books (only 52 copies) sell most (all?) of their copies before they are publicly announced. The only reason why I have a copy is because I kept a email correspondence with the author when they were in the planning stage.

Well, that was the exact thought going through my mind when I ordered the lone DVD.. that they would just toss it in with my previous order anyway. Especially since they had combined other orders (partials and preorders) before, but they were all free shipping, so it didn't bother me. However, this time, I have received my first order of DVDs already and don't have notification on shipment of my lone DVD yet, so it seems I'm actually paying for what I'm getting this time... unless one of my backordered free shipping items shows up soon.. Wink

And well, if they had tossed my lone DVD in with my free shipping box and still charged me shipping, I would have at least emailed them about it. Doesn't hurt to ask, afterall. I don't know how far I would have pursued it past there, if any though.

Yikes! Burned multiple times! I am going through something similar. A web site stated they had SaiKano Volume 7 in stock - after my partial order shipped this item was placed on "backorder". Well, they will never get this because it is OOP. Email regarding a refund has gone unanswered so far.

So that nobody is confused here - we are not talking about TRSI. Before you make a purchase anywhere - read their terms and conditions. Know what you are getting into.

If memory serves, rightstuf doesn't charge until the items ship...think someone said that already. Anyway, I received an email on the 14th saying my order shipped the 13th. And, well, that's my first order. My lone DVD still says it's processing. Now I'm hoping that in the next couple of days the tracking number they gave me will work (at least, assuming it's because the order was recently shipped and not because it's wrong). Do I find tracking it all that important...no, not really. It'll end up here when it does regardless.

Edit: (20)
For those that might check back here, my order came (well, is coming, I only have the first one right now, the second should arrive on Monday at the latest) in two separate boxes. Oh well, $3 is that much more.

Edit 2:
My single DVD came today (21)
