Again, it's Macross-related. I want to let you know that my fansub script for DYRL is hosted on two websites:

1. The "Texts, Fan Subs, Essays etc" subsection of the "Fan Works" section of http://www.unspacy.de

The direct link is: http://unspacy.sdf1.net/fanfic/skullone/UNSDBdyrl_script_skullone_fanworks.html

2. lebhead's (from the MacrossWorld forums: http://www.macrossworld.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi) http://protoculture.lebhead.com/ This one has been the victim of some incompatibilities between Mac and Windows character sets, though. I've notified him and I believe he'll rectify the problem soon.

Oh, on another note, regarding my review of DYRL? , I would once again like to inform the moderators, admins and webmasters that I give them permission to use it. Besides, this is why I wrote it in the first place.

You can find it here:

Well hello there skullone and lebhead! Imagine running into you guys here!

Hey skullone, I downloaded your fansub and read it today during my lunch break. Great stuff, but some of it still comes off as a little confusing. Are you planning to rework it a little? I don't mean to nit-pick. Hell, I'm too lazy to do anything like what you did. Great job, but I had to just ask the question.

I'm open to suggestions and ideas. I'd greatly appreciate your feedback. However, it would be most useful to me if you could tell me which parts you find confusing, so that I can review them.

You can get DYRL subbed legally on vhs through Kiseki. (An Australian/UK anime import company.)

To let you know...

There's a few names you should never, ever mention to Macross fans:

1. Robotech.
2. Carl Macek.
3. Harmony Gold.
4. KISEKI.

I have the subbed Kiseki version on VHS. I bought it two years ago from http://www.videostorecult.com

I had told them REPEATEDLY I needed a PAL copy, since I live in Greece, but they sent me an NTSC copy instead. I contacted them upon receiving the wrong tape and they reassured me they'd send me the correct one, in PAL. I offered to return the old one with the shipping covered by me. Well, guess what: I'm STILL waiting for them to contact me.

So, as you can guess, there is NO WAY I can recommend Video Store Cult.

As for Kiseki's subtitling... It's absolutely horrible. Most of the time, the dialogues make no sense at all. Some of the highlights are "My engine blocks are angry at me" (said by Hikaru Ichijyo to Lynn Minmay when they're trapped in one of the SDF-1 Macross's engine blocks) and "you keep jumping from subject to subject like an acrobat" (again by Hikaru Ichijyo, this time to Misa Hayase, when they're stranded on Earth. She mentioned that his father was killed in an airplane accident and he was supposed to explain how it happened to her). This subtitling is even worse than the Hong Kong dub used by Best Film and Video. What's worse, these nonsensical subtitles are in a font that gets too much in the way and obstructs the view. A complete and utter atrocity, as is reportedly the case with the overwhelming majority of Kiseki's subtitles.

Picture quality is also particularly bad. Ok, one cannot expect much from VHS, but this version looks like it was made from an umpteenth-generation copy, full of discoloration, faded colors, serious contrast issues... Overall, its a crappy product, without the slightest redeeming factors.
