This should be be interesting. I never read the manga but I recall hearing that Lupin was a much nastier character there than in any of the many anime versions were he's often a dashing if very lecherous anti-hero who tends to pit himself against greater evil for his thefts. Could Monkey Punch be taking him back to his roots? Though I suppose that we saw more than a bit of that already in The Woman Called Fujiko Mine.

Lupin III is 50 years old? Yowsa I thought it was from the 80s, or maybe the late 70s. I had no idea was 1967. Its actually a year older then Golgo 13! Astonishing!

"Project" is pretty vague, it could just be a short as an extra on a new Japanese Blu-Ray set, for all we know. Something like 2012's "Lupin Family Lineup", the adaptation of the first chapter of the second manga series. But more Lupin is usually good... if we can get it overseas, that is.

He previously directed the dead or alive special back in 1996 but he said it was a negative experience he never wanted to do again. But here we are...

I wouldn't mind a lengthy piece of animation, but I'm gonna assume its gonna be a shorter work.
1. Monkey Punch said that directing was something he didn't like. 2. I think they would be pretty busy with the fifth series. 3. Lupin shown in his racer outfit from the first episode/early manga chapter, and according to the update it was ranked number #5 in popularity. So I'm guessing from the poll they chose of the high ranked ones to remake. |

I thought he never wanted to direct a film again after Dead or Alive, which he apparently reluctantly took on in the first place.

Miyazaki has said numerous times he plans on retiring after [film title], but hasn't stayed in retirement. When have established a reputation for something successful, it can be hard to truly stay retired. |

The 80s? The music from Part II could have never have been so good if it were from the 80s... Just sayin'. Although to be fair, Part II is from the late 70s, but the original anime is earlier and the manga even earlier, of course. |

Which isn't really saying much since Part 3's music is from the 80's and is good in it's own right....it's also not as shamelessly recycled as the 78 and 80's themes are. |

It feels like only yesterday seeing episode one of Part I on first run.
I'm sort of hoping the new France series will just be considered the next season of Part IV and that this new project is just a side series like the Fujiko series we had a few years back. Part I is still my favorite of all four main series, and out of that earlier Part I episodes were the best. I hated what Miyazaki did at the mid-point of Part I. As far as I am concerned these episodes feel so much more like the manga (which I've read complete in the original Japanese from the late 60's all the way through the 70's) |

Honestly, I felt like when Miyazaki took over, the show gained a lot more structure and plot coherence, even if it wasn't as edgy. Though I will admit my favorite episode or Part I was from just before that happened. |

So,Lupin III's going to France now. That's interesting. If I remember correctly,his grandfather was French and a thief no less. I don't know if it'll reach our shores,but it'll be interesting to see nonetheless.
