Hobby Japan launched a new hobby magazine titled HJ Mechanics on Friday. The magazine is oriented toward "adults who love mecha," and contains articles and columns on mecha model kits. HJ Mechanics also features pictures of model kits, interviews of modelers and developers of model kits, and product recommendations.

The first issue contains two sections, with the first dedicated to Mobile Suit Gundam side stories. The section features kitbashed versions of the Ex-S, the Hazel-Rah, and a scratch-built Tyrant Sword. The section also has articles on Gundam Sentinel, Tyrant Sword, and Advance of Zeta, as well as an article about gunpla kits based on those series. Additionally, the first section has an article centered on mobile suits in the Advance of Zeta story.

The second section is dedicated to the Scopedog mecha from Armored Trooper Votoms, and includes interviews with mechanical designer Kunio Okawara and producer Koichi Inoue.
