Shoji Kawamori and Hiroyuki Gotō to Give Seminar On Animation

posted on by Chris Nishijima
Creator of Macross franchise to speak on what it takes to create something "original."

All great masters in any field must first learn from those who came before. That is just as true in the animation industry as any other. In order to help cultivate those who wish to learn more about animation in various different forms, the Suginami Ward and the Association of Japanese Animators will be teaming up to hold a special seminar series titled the "Suginami Anime Aficionado Training Seminar."

Scheduled to appear at the seminar is Macross franchise creator Shōji Kawamori, alongside Satelight 3D CGI designer Hiroyuki Goto. Mr. Goto, who will be speaking on February 8 at 10:30AM, will be giving a lecture titled "Deciding to Work In 3DCG," which will discuss what to expect in that field of work, as well as describing the various tasks that one will deal with while overseeing 3DCG creation during a project. Mr. Kawamori, who will be delivering his lecture later the same day at 2:00PM, will be discussing "The Frame of Mind for Creating Something Original," drawing from his experience working in script writing, mechanic design, concept art, and more in projects such as The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Genesis of Aquarion, and Eureka Seven.

The "Suginami Anime Aficionado Training Seminar" is also set to include lectures with titles such as "To be able to go as far as Kill la Kill," "Asahi Production's Intro to Digital Animation," and "About Through the Seasons ~TOKYO STATION~." In addition to the lectures, the series will include a special exhibit displaying original illustrations and production materials from NHK's Log Horizon.

The seminar is scheduled to take place from February 7 to 8 at the Asagaya Residential Center. More information can be found on the event's official homepage.
