Magician thief gets TV special, appears in Detective Conan film on April 17

The official website of Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine has confirmed that the Animax television channel will run an anime special based on the first chapter of Gōshō Aoyama's Magic Kaito manga in Japan on April 17. It will be the first anime adaptation of the manga.

Aoyama launched Magic Kaito in 1987, before he created his more famous Detective Conan (Case Closed) manga. Magic Kaito centers on a young budding magician named Kaito Kuroba (Kappei Yamaguchi) who follows in his late father's footsteps as the legendary thief Kaitō Kid. Not coincidentally, Magic Kaito character will appear in the 14th Detective Conan film, Detective Conan: The Lost Ship in The Sky, on April 17 as well.

Toshiki Hirano (Magic Knight Rayearth, Vampire Princess Miyu) is directing the Magic Kaito anime at TMS Entertainment (Tokyo Movie), the studio behind the Detective Conan anime franchise.
