Talent management company Arts Vision announced on Monday that voice actor Yuichiro Umehara has been discharged from the hospital. The agency said that Umehara will slowly return to work, but the agency will continue to take his physical condition into consideration.
The talent agency reported in May that Umehara was hospitalized after being diagnosed with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM), an autoimmune disease that affects the nervous system. The post at the time said that Umehara would take an indefinite hiatus from work.
The new post from Arts Vision on Monday stated that while he was being treated in the hospital, Umehara had a complication of intracranial hypotension, but after medical treatment and rehabilitation, his doctors discharged him from the hospital with no worries about after-effects.
While on hiatus, staff members replaced Umehara in several works, including in DARLING in the FRANXX (replaced by Daiki Hamano), The Thousand Musketeers (replaced by Tomoaki Maeno), Tada Never Falls in Love (replaced by Tomokazu Sugita), Happy Sugar Life (replaced by Kaito Ishikawa), and Caligula (replaced by Tomoaki Maeno).
Umehara made his major voice acting debut voicing the character Wakasa in the Orenchi no Furo Jijō anime. He has since voiced roles in such anime as Cute High Earth Defense Club LOVE! (En Yufuin), Aquarion Logos (Hayato Kujo), Snow White with the Red Hair (Mitsuhide Rōen), Young Black Jack (Kuroo Hazama/Black Jack), Amanchu! (Makoto Ninomiya), Tiger Mask W (Tiger the Dark), Girlish Number (Gojō Karasuma), Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul (Charioce), Classroom of the Elite (Manabu Horikita), Black Clover (Mars), Jūni Taisen: Zodiac War (Ox), The [email protected] SideM (Kyōji Takajō), and Kino's Journey - The Beautiful World (Shizu).
More recent roles include Goro in DARLING in the FRANXX, Siegfried Kircheis in The Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These, Hajime Suzamoto in Tada Never Falls in Love, Seiya Ichijō in Sword Gai: The Animation, Izuru Minezawa in Caligula, and Jay Yoon in Last Hope (Jūshinki Pandora). He is slated to voice the titular role in the Goblin Slayer anime. Umehara received the Best New Actor Award in the 10th Annual Seiyū Awards in 2016.
