Tampa Bay's Japanese Animation Convention

Brings Anime, Industry Guests and Fan Events to Florida's West Coast

July 9-11, 2004 at the Crowne Plaza – Tampa at Sabal Park



TAMPA BAY, FL, June 9, 2004 -- Experience Japanese animation, music, art and more at METROCON 2004 – Tampa Bay, Florida's anime convention – from 12 noon on Friday, July 9 through 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 11, at the Crowne Plaza - Tampa at Sabal Park, 10221 Princess Palm Ave.



The weekend-long event celebrates numerous facets of Japanese popular entertainment – from anime (Japanese animation), manga (Japanese comics), J-pop and J-rock (Japanese pop and rock music, performed by “idols”) to cosplay (costume design and performance) and video games. More than 1,700 Japanese animation fans turned out for 2003's inaugural event, establishing a new, first-year attendance record for Florida anime conventions.



This year's event is scheduled to feature:



- Panels with North American anime industry guests including voice actors Greg Ayres, Luci Christian, Vic Mignogna, Doug Smith and Monica Rial, ADV Films' ADR Directors/Producers Don Rush and David Williams and artists Katie Bair, Robert and Emily DeJesus, plus representatives from Tampa's own AN Entertainment;

- The first-ever Anime Human Chess Match, where participants costumed as favorite anime characters square-off;

- The second edition of the “Anime Idol” J-Pop/J-Rock Competition;

- “Live commentary” screenings hosted by the voice actors and ADR directors;

- An art show and Artists' Alley;

- A cosplay competition and a runway-style costume contest, during which participants are judged on the design and presentation of costumes depicting favorite anime, manga and video game characters;

- A dealers'/exhibition room with licensed, domestic and imported merchandise available for purchase from an assortment of retailers;

- “DDR Extreme” Tournaments where top “Dance Dance Revolution” video game players show off energetic dance moves on an authentic DDR Extreme 8th Mix arcade machine;

- An Anime Music Video contest;

- Official convention screenings of new North American releases;

- Special evening events, including the third edition of the Final Fantasy Ball, karaoke and a Saturday night dance with an exclusive J-pop, J-rock and anime music soundtrack;

- The METROCADE video game room, stocked with a DDR Extreme arcade machine, plus domestic and import home console games; and

- Last – but certainly not least – 212 continuous hours of Japanese anime and related programming in four rooms!



Tickets are available in advance at the METROCON site, www.metroconventions.com, and may also be purchased “at-the-door.”



Membership rates for METROCON 2004 are as follows:

- Three-Day Membership (Friday, Saturday and Sunday):

o Adults: $25 advance (through June 26, 2004) | $30 at-the-door;

o Children, 6-10: $10 advance (through June 26, 2004) | $15 at-the-door, with paid adult admission;

o Children, under 5: Free, with paid adult admission.



- Two-Day Membership (Two of the three days):

o Adults: $20 advance (through June 26, 2004) | $25 at-the-door;

o Children, 6-10: $8 advance (through June 26, 2004) | $10 at-the-door, with paid adult admission;

o Children, under 5: Free, with paid adult admission.



- One-Day Membership (One of the three days):

o Adults: $10 per day, advance (through June 26, 2004) |

$15 per day, at-the-door;

o Children, 6-10: $5 per day, advance (through June 26, 2004) |

$8 per day, at-the-door, with paid adult admission;

o Children, under 5: Free, with paid adult admission.
