So, I bought Samurai Gun DVD 1 from Game Stop about a week ago, and I started watching the DVD last night. Somehow it didn't seem like the episode I was watching was the beginning of the story at all (My DVD player automatically plays the DVD without going through the menus and all that). So I stopped everything and went to the main menu, and it said [play episodes: 5, 6, 7]. With that I opened up my player and indeed the disc was disc 2 of the series. SO I took it back to where I bought it, thinking I could return it, but you know how sales people are about returning things. Fortunately he found disc one in the wrong slip case, so he gave it to me and everybody lived happily ever after. Another incident happened like this almost two years ago when what I thought I was buying was Excel Saga volume 3 (before I really got into anime), but it turned out to be volume 1. This had been bought at a Game Stop closer to my house, but they didn't have the right volume and that was what was traded in at the time. So I traded it back, and never saw that one again.
So, have you ever bought an anime DVD, either new or used, and gotten the wrong contents for it?

No, I can say I haven't.
I did "accidentally" get an extra CD with a small bundle of CDs I ordered though. Maybe not the same thing, but it was still a mistake.

Yup. And while I now have all the actual DVDs involved, if any one has a spare copy of just the packaging for Getter Robo: Armageddon Volume 3: Ascension I'd be interested in working something out with you.

Yes. When I bought the first Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water collection (used) it was missing the first disc and instead had two copies of the second. I had bought it off ebay and when I contacted the seller they weren't willing to do anything about it. Eventually I gave up and bought the disc by itself for $4.

Not really--the closest thing I can think of was when I ordered the Vol. 1 + Box of the NGE Platinum edition from some seller on Amazon, but instead got a horse calendar that was supposed to go to some woman in Kentucky. I'm sure she was more surprised than I was, assuming our orders were switched. Luckily, I did get things straightened out and got what I needed.

Haven't had this happen to me with any anime-related material (unless you count an ashtray and a large bolt that I got instead of Star Fox 64 and the accompanying rumble pack from Walmart way back whenever) though my mother had a wierd music CD incident a few years back.
She bought one of those easy listening compilations (Mountain Streams, Windy Fields, or some other generic name) but somehow it turned out to be a Black Sabbath CD with the aforementioned generic name label on it. Gave me a good laugh when I suddenly heard her screaming at War Pigs.

When I purchased Bubblegum Crisis box set (the older one with the holographic cases, not the remastered set they have now) it had DVD 1, 2, 3, and 3 inside the box. No dvd #4.
It was the hurricane live dvd, but anyway I didn't take it back, I just bought #4 on ebay and made sure it was the holographic case. Now I just have an extra dvd 3 O.o
There are a few used places that forgot to give me the game. You know how Gamestop stores don't have the games in the cases because of theft prevention. Well I didn't get any game and purchased an empty case.

I thought I had bought Mezzoforte from Gamestop, but when I put the disc in the DVD player it turned out it was actually volume three of the Mezzo TV series. I returned it immediately (well, after watching the opening and ending themes) since I didn't want to ruin the ending before I had seen the beginning, but I ended up liking the OVA so much I went back and bought all of MezzoTV, too.

sort of.. I recently bought this megaman DVD.. I believed it to be the modernized megaman.. I wasn't expecting it was the fossilized megaman!! My brother was laughing so hard..
The reason why I thought it was the modern, updated version was because of the cover. The picture that was on the cover isn't from megaman classic.. oh well, at least I got to return it

This seems to be about a 1 in a 1000 error from my and friends/family experiences. I most recently received a new copy of the R2 Phantasm box set which contained two copies of the second movie instead of the third movie. I've also had the missing CD problem (new and unwrapped) and so have a few of my friends. I only have a funny mislabeled CD which is stamped as an ELP CD and case but actually has Kitaro on it.

Closest I've been to this was I just bought Bleach vol 2, & the packaging said there was a free Shinigami substitute patch inside; there was not.
And waaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day, I bought the Metallica 'black album' cd on release day, rushed home, opened it, & found an empty case. Fortunately, they gave me another copy.

A few times I've had this happen but the most outrageous incident was when I special ordered the new dvd release of Vampire Hunter D. It was time to upgrade from VHS so I ordered it while I was working at Sam Goody/Suncoast. I get the disc and it's got a a solid black cover on top of the dvd itself. Odd I thought, but whatever. Popped it in the stores dvd player, we could play our own stuff early in the mornings or late at night. Instead of Vampire Hunter D I got 2 Japanese guys jerking off to some school girl and a money shot. All of this on 7 different tvs in the store I got so yelled at for that. I've also had several discs come horribly scratched but that's a different matter. MOst of the other times I've gotten wrong discs it's just been another volume in the series itself.

I am SO glad that it wasn't going off while you had your store open, that could have cost you your job Or did it?

I don't think this kind of thing is all that uncommon. There was a post in the retail forum a little while back from someone who was upset because this happened with their Kare Kano boxset.
As I mentioned in that thread, I have had this happen once with anime DVDs. I bought the DNA^2 boxset from Deep Discount DVD and although the case for disc #5 was correct, inside was another copy of the fourth disc. Even though almost 4 months had gone by since I bought it, they took care of it no questions asked. It ended up being a little bit of an inconvenience but not a big deal.
I have had this happen with non-anime DVDs as well.

A few years ago while at Gamestop I was looking at the used anime dvd's and noticed they had Dragon Ball box sets. I found the world tournament saga so I picked up the box and brought it to the counter. The guy then goes to get the discs from the back and comes back out saying "I sent the discs back to the ware house because I couldn't find the box" I said to myself "how could he not know the box was on the shelf, that should have been the first place he looked". Now I think he wanted it for himself. The a few month's later I got that box set for my birthday.
