As long as you stay away from me, it's cool. Wink In truth, I see nothing wrong with being a hugely obsessive fan. It may garner you strange looks, ostracision from society, and make anime cons your only home, but that's up to you. It's only when you become a threat to others and yourself that any kind of obsession is bad.

I think obession with anything isn't good. Even if you think it isnt bad at the moment, in the long run it can be really bad. Take this for example, people who are obsessed with excercise, they work out 3 times a day for about 2 hours at a time. Thats 6 hours every day. Thats 42 hours of working out every week. Do you know how much stress that puts on a person's body? That's terrible for you. Now granted it all isn't as serious as this, but just consider that there are other things out there for you to enjoy other than anime.

Now I don't know your particular case, (ie. how old you are, if you work or not etc.) but it sounds like you need to check out more of life, instead of just the TV. I watch anime in healthy doses (granted I've done a couple marathons one in a blue) but for the most part maybe watch a couple anime's a week. Rest of the time I'm out working, chillin with my girl, out with my dogs ad playing a videogame or two when I have the time.

Just check out your options.

-D

Does it really matter? You wouldn't stop being such an anime nerd either way. However, I must say that there a lot of forms entertainment out there, and focusing "only" in anime seems dull and boring.

Umm... working out is actually GOOD for you. You don't wake up one day and start a routine such as this. THAT'S putting too much stress on your body. If you're capable of healthily maintaining such a regimen, you're better off by far.

You know, explaining such a common phrase makes your parenthesized phrase seem retroactive. It would be like me saying, "TV (or television)" The only conceivable reason to explain that phrase in its context is to differentiate between spending time with friends or canines. Either way, your purpose is equally supported by both statements. Further delineating your statement simply comes across as an attempt to proclaim your knowledge of "street language."

However, I will agree with you and the subsequent poster that limiting yourself to only anime will "narrow your horizons," so to speak. I used to be obsessed with Star Wars, and almost didn't realize I had a knack for playing guitar. Limiting yourself is the same as being a threat to yourself, which is a result of obsession gone too far.

50000 hours is 2000 days, which is about 6 years-worth of anime, if you watched without break.

given that people need about 8 hours of sleep, and a fair number of us (until we're in our 20s) go to school for ~8 hours/day, that means you only have ~8 hours available to you each day to watch anime. also assuming you don't first get into anime until you're a teen, you probably would be in your late 20s/early 30s by now.

no, you haven't watched anywhere near that much anime. nor have i, nor have many (if any) anime fans.

Well, the video guy in Otaku No Video might have 50,000 hours if he's still alive. I think Frosted might have typed one too many zeros. But still 1000 TV series, OAVs, and movies is impessive. I watch alot of anime but no more than 15 hours a week.

50,000 hours that's got to be a joke, most anime series are only 10 hours long if they are one season, and although there are many series that's like watching anime in one sitting for 5.7 years. Give me a break dude... If you watched all of the Dragonball series plus Z and GT you wouldn't have much more then 208 hours, and that's one of the longest series ever besides Doraemon. I sincerely hope that post was a joke.

hey space clam, while this is straying off the main topic too much working out is indeed bad for you. Ask any health physician, and they'll always not to overwork yourself and take breaks inbetween days.I know I work out every other day, and even then I'm kinda sore. Your joints and muscles need rest. When you do excercise your muscles actually tear, and then when you let them rest they rebuild, and get stronger. So if you don't let them rest and just keep tearing them, thats how you hurt yourself. I know I've hurt myself working out.

Anyways, this is straying from the topic so lets get back on it. And dbz is only 208 hours? I figured it longer than that. so that means head have to watch that 2500 times? thats a sick amount of anime. Berserk is my favorite series by far, clocking in at near 10-11 hours. I've watched that series about 3-4 times through, but even so that's a lot. I also picked up a guitar, cause I wanted to see how hard it is to play some theme songs/some of my favorite bands. And whaddya know,I'm actually pretty darn good at it for only playing about 2 years.

Get into music if you like it, always a good way to meet new people.

peace out

-D

Not even that. DBZ is 291 episodes, and GT is 64. Assuming each episode is approximately 25 minutes in length puts the count at 8875 minutes, or 147.916 hours, or just over 6 days straight. Talk about a productive use of time. Rolling Eyes

Too much exercise can also be bad. I have met those who have worked out and worked on getting ripped so much they have either torn ligaments and tissue so badly they are near crippled, and others who abused steriods to get there quicker.
Too much of anything is bad. If you have nothing else in live, you should look. Anime is good as a hobby and as fun, but remember that it should be a part of your life, not your life alone.

Personally, I don't see anime as an obsession--I see it as an interest. There have been many times where I've spent most of a day watching anime, and I have no problem with that at all.
There have also been many times when I've spent an entire day playing video games, reading, writing, playing basketball, and hanging out with friends.

I believe, that in anything you do, there has to be balance. In my opinion, if I spend an entire day(or two...it's happened before Wink ) watching anime, then I'll spend the very next day involved in other interests. As long as you divide your time wisely it's not an obsession--it's just life.

I meant with Dragon Ball too, not just Z and GT.

Dude, any kind of obssesion is bad for you. Because you start to concentrate on just one thing and dig in it deep to get simply everything out of it. By doing so you miss out on a lot of other important things.
I mean, life offers you a variety of different activities and I think that obssesing just one of them is a terrible waste. Also I doubt that you dont have anything else to do.
