I probably shouldn't admit this, but I wasn't aware that she was still writing. Wow. What a long and impressive career. I wish we could see more of her work released in the States.

You're far less guilty than I am. Admittedly the only things I'm familiar with regarding Hagio's work are her doing Illusion of Gaia's character designs (because I love that game) and adapting some of Ray Bradbury's stories into manga style for a shojo magazine.

Her 4-volume "Barbara Ikai" won the Japan SF Award in 2006, becoming the first manga to do so since Katsuhiro Otomo's "Domu" in 1983.
