"Judges decided that no work in the 'Science-Fiction/Robot' category fit the project's criterion of being an 'idea overflowing with originality that makes a new genre of animation.'"
Uh, yikes.

Am I the only one who thinks that the overall description of Sakugan Labyrinth Maker sounds eerily similar to the base concept of Made In Abyss?

A story about a family trying to survive in an overpopulated underground dystopia sounds like it could make for a good anime but it wasn't going to make a new genre of anime. The idea of an underground dystopia has been used in science fiction books for decades and it was a frequent story setting during the 1950's. It looks to me like the contest had such a high goal that it was unlikely that anyone could win the grand prize.

He doesn't know, Japan loves to do this. There was a manga competition held by Jump. Surprise surprise, no one won.
