It's hard to think of a manga/anime that would work worse in live-action than One Piece.

It'll be interesting to see how they do this.

Bad or Good, I'll watch it.

Really can't see how this will work. Oda's involvement sounds like it's mostly just to get his name on paper kinda thing. Like all those bad movies Spielberg was "executive producer" for. Should at least give some laughs with the CG for the powers lol.

I don't believe Ohba-sensei nor Obata-sensei had anything to do with that project so this definitely seems different.

I can't fathom why and how this came to be a thing.

Has to be one of the worse choices for a live-action adaptation. Besides it being comically expensive to adapt, that visual style just won't translate well in live-action.

Everything before Arlong Park fits into a single cour; thirteen episodes would probably be better. Nami betraying the crew is a good seasonal cliffhanger. The Baratie arc would be pretty baller with real food as well.

I'm not very familiarized with One Piece, I've only watched a couple of episodes. I have a friend who's watched almost all episodes though.
Still, I'm not sure how to adapt it into live action, One Piece is very cartoony and over the top, I can't imagine how they're going to adapt all those moments into live-action.

The only chance for this to come good is don't adapt nothing that is already in the anime or manga, they should adapt something new, a sidestory from a different point of view like a Low rank Marine in the Gol D. roger Era or something like that but without main protagonist that we know(just show those like Roger and shirohige in the papers and teach the audience about this world little by little from that point of view), but Oda obsession for hit hard in western audience will be the thing that make this suck., not at death note level but something moderate bad.

I can see this going badly or really well depending on how certain aspects of the series are handled. Guess we'll have to wait and see how it turns out.

Has there been any progress on their SAO adaption? And that seems like it would at least adapt better then One Piece.

Everyone knows the jokes so let’s just get them out of the way.

Luffy will be super serial.
Nami will be a black girl because reasons and everyone will be super racist towards the actress causing them to double down on the actress.
Stretching will look stupid.

I get every streaming service wants the new Game of Thrones. (If any show is in contention for that, it’s between The Witcher and The Mandalorian). Fine. But One Piece? Not the right IP.
