Oh boy. I still have yet to see the original OVA and I was hoping this movie might be fairly good seeing how in some circles the OVA is really loved and it is merely 45-60 minutes long, but that trailer...ouch. Doesn't help that it was direct to DVD, that tells you a lot.

Heh, why not...... IIRC the original Kite OVA also had its N. American premiere at Otakon 17 years ago at like 1am in the morning.

It's loved for the violence and exploitative nature of the main character and her relationships. Maybe this film went the DTV route to not have be reduced to PG-13, maybe not even R; maybe it went full-on NC-17 to try to emulate the uncut OVA.

If Sawa is not underage in the film, then there'd be just 1 rape scene - the others would be adult consent.

It's only a porn because that's the condition Arms presented to Umetsu when he proposed the OVA.

It's an odd borderline OVA. Even though it has visible genitals, it's for such a short part of the run time and not the main focus. While that could classify it as hentai anime, it's not really in the same running as stuff like Cool Devices or many of those Injuu titles of the 90s, and it's certainly not like Angel Blade or Soreyuke Marin-chan.

And it's not like you can say Umetsu was tainted or necessarily constrained by this when he had already worked on an episode in Cool Devices. It's kind of funny that he seems to have a better record when sex is involved than without when it comes to directing, otherwise he should just stick to designs and key animation.

Kite is porn/hentai? Is the movie highly edited on Netflix? There's like one boob in the entire film and only like two sex scenes, one of which just shows some sheets.
Your average 80s action movie has more intense/explicit sex than Kite. Hell, American Pie is more graphic.
